Jefferson FACT 2012

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello all!

I am so glad I was directed to this discussion forum. I believe it is a great place to share and learn. I am extremely interested in Jefferson's FACT program. I plan to apply for May 2012. I just wanted to reach out to anyone with similar interest and your thoughts on the process. I would like to know who else plans to apply for May 2012 and if your pre-req's have been completed.

Just to share a little about myself, I am completing my BS in Public Health at an online University (3 weeks left!) and have all the pre-req's completed. I am just excited about this next journey.

I also love how Jefferson FACT students automatically are accepted into the MSN program. My goal is to become a Women's Health NP, and Jefferson seems to be the way to go.

I would also love to hear from current students as well.

Hi Nishtari,

Sorry I can't find it.

Hey guys,If there are any of you who have been accepted and didn't join the fb group, send a request. The link is a few pages back. It is Jefferson FACT 2012-13.

Hi shhr,

I can't seem to find you on Facebook...

Please advice.

Janet

Hi, I know they are still interviewing people so be patient...and good luck. Also, I've heard Columbia is a great option.

Im currently a FACT student, and I actually had to complete all my science prereq's because i had a BA in Psych, which meant they wouldn't look at my application until I submitted my grades from my first prereqs which was n January. I actually called one day, in January and ended up getting ahold of Niki Kelley. She told me to give her an hour, she called me back and interviewed me over the phone. I got my acceptance emails 8 minutes later. So...relax, and just keep making phone calls if you happen to be in the situation I was in. :)

I was just wondering if anyone that is currently in the program could advise about how easy it is or if it is possible at all to switch clinicals with people. One of the concerns I have about the program is that I have quite a few weekend obligations for this upcoming year ( weddings) that I am not able to miss. Do they let you switch with someone else for that clinical period or is that not allowed/are people not willing to do that? any info would be helpful!!

You can't switch. I don't know anyone who has been able to switch clinical rotations and the professors couldn't care less about any weekend obligations you might have, not even religious obligations. There are 120+ students in this program, so if they try to accommodate one person's schedule, then they have to try to accommodate them all and that's not possible. There have been times that we didn't even get our clinical assignments until a week before the start date and some clinicals have changed with less than 24 hours notice.

As stated on this board many, many times, be prepared to give up your life for one year. There will be countless things you can't do. I couldn't even attend my grandmother's funeral because the travel involved would have required me to miss too much clinical during the first semester. For every non-emergency missed clinical day, there's a $250 fine and you still have to make it up. So I think you have weigh how essential your education is against how essential it is that you attend some weddings.

I was just thinking more about your post. My bigger concern with planning your weekends now is that you don't have your overall schedule, so you have no idea when your exams are, and exams are frequent. We are not on your typical semester calendar; instead, we have 12-week quarters and even then classes do not typically run week 1-12 of the semester, so you can't plan mid-terms or finals. We are usually always studying for exams and there's not much time to study, since our calendar is pretty much packed with class, clinical, Kaplan, etc. So if you have to travel for a wedding for a weekend right before your exams, you will have even less time to study.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I'm trying to give you the reality of the situation. If you choose to attend this program, you will pay over $40k just in tuition, plus insurance and living expenses. That's a lot of money to gamble. I know several people who started in this program who were not willing to sacrifice their social lives, and they're no longer in the program. That's a lot of money for them to have wasted.

Does it suck missing all the things you want to do? Yes, definitely! I can't wait to have a life again! But I'm glad I chose to knock it all out in one year. But I was also prepared to say no to a lot of things I wanted to do. I also reminded my family and friends repeatedly before this program started that I would not be see them much. So consider carefully how much you're willing to sacrifice for one year before committing the time and money to this program.

Yes, I would be? have you found someone yet.

Thanks!

@kdrose01, do we have clinicals during the holidays as well (i.e. summer, winter, spring break)? I'm from out of state and would hope to visit home every few months.

Yes, you will have breaks, but if you miss clinical, your make up time can be over break. The winter break is not really even a break because you have so much work over it.

Thank you so much kdrose01! :specs:
