Jefferson FACT 2012

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hello all!

I am so glad I was directed to this discussion forum. I believe it is a great place to share and learn. I am extremely interested in Jefferson's FACT program. I plan to apply for May 2012. I just wanted to reach out to anyone with similar interest and your thoughts on the process. I would like to know who else plans to apply for May 2012 and if your pre-req's have been completed.

Just to share a little about myself, I am completing my BS in Public Health at an online University (3 weeks left!) and have all the pre-req's completed. I am just excited about this next journey.

I also love how Jefferson FACT students automatically are accepted into the MSN program. My goal is to become a Women's Health NP, and Jefferson seems to be the way to go.

I would also love to hear from current students as well.

hi! i'm thinking of applying..i read online about the final decision deadline to be on march 1 but i'm wondering how many spaces are left. it seems by the time i submit everything into nursingcas that the spots will all be filled. what do u guys think? also i was in the process of filling out nursingcas and had trouble finding the FACT program as an option. any help/thoughts would be great! thanks so much!

Hi Everybody! I'm Erica - just wanted to introduce myself. I got accepted a few weeks ago and just found this forum on here. Are there any "Facebook groups" created for our class?

Thanks in advance

@2nurse1: you probably selected "graduate programs" somewhere in your nursingCAS application; try to change it to the "undergraduate" - FACT is listed there. I have read several years of postings on this blog and I think you have a good chance of being accepted even if you apply late and are placed on the "waiting list" as long as you are qualified and competitive... Good luck!

Question: does anyone know if American databank gives any feedback on clearances to the applicant? I mailed all the required forms but how do I know they are not lost in transit? Wouldn't want to find out in April that I have to start over... Any advice? Thank you!

P.S. I would definitely join you guys for coffee if this great idea is still alive; may be on a weekend (if possible), somewhere near Jefferson campus?

I didn't read (unless I read over it) anywhere that we would receive feedback. That would be great though!About our coffee meet up, I have a pretty open availability. So maybe we can start throwing dates out there? Next weekend (18-19)?

Is anyone having difficulty getting a campus key? I've called Niki Kelley, a few admin assistants, and the IT department several times and either no one picks up and/or they cannot assist me. I haven't been able to access Pulse or my Jeff Mail yet. I want to get started on everything but feel behind because of this!

I remember calling admissions...they couldn't assign my campus key because they didn't have my SSN or something like that. Give them a try...

Yeah that was my issue too, no SSN on file. But I logged on to the banner web and it took me to a page where I could enter in missing info (i.e. SSN) and then it said it would take 24 hours to generate the key. I did this Monday evening but when I tried to look up my campus key earlier today, it still could not find it. I'll try to call admissions and see what the deal is.

@Ash-Niki emailed me for my social security number so that she can set up the campus key for me after my acceptance. Then I received a confirmation letter later saying that it can take up to 24hrs for the key to be generated. It actually took like two days. I went to pulse and select campus key look up and got it that way.

Insurance question for everyone who don't have insurance coverage like me.

I looked up the minimum coverage requirement for Jeff and it cost almost $4000 for one year. That's like more than $300 a month, insanely expensive and unreasonable. Now, for those that already looked into outside options, please share your research with other insurance companies and their package that will satisfy Jeff's requirement plus prices. Thank you

@ Steillare- Niki sent me the same e-mail and I replied with my SSN but never got confirmation so I tried calling her several times but to no avail. Sigh...

As for health insurance, I currently have coverage thru IBX-KHPE. It's less than $200/month and I believe it meets the insurance requirements. I have script coverage, vision, radiology tests...the whole nine yards. No dental but my dad is a dentist so I'm covered there ;) You just have to apply online. They can give you a quote for each policy/plan depending on a little form that you fill out. Hope this helps!

The main problem with many of the IBX plans is that they don't provide mental health coverage. To get the same coverage as the student health plan (which you won't because of mental health exclusion) it would cost ~ $315.00 monthly.

Health insurance is really disappointing regardless. I too have an IBX plan, but a high deductible one. It's fine as long as you don't get sick. Then, on top of the monthly premium of almost $200, you have to pay out of pocket for the expenses until they add up to over $5,000. I looked over the student health plan, and it looks pretty good. If you get sick, you have low co-pays and in case of an emergency, you'd pay only $500.00 for a hospital visit. A lot of the IBX plans I was just glancing over have copays of that per day up to five days, meaning you would be paying out-of-pocket $2500.00. Pretty crazy stuff. My own insurance makes me not want to go to the doctor even if I'm sick and realize I probably should go. $20 vs. $120 doctor visit? I'll be upgrading to the student health plan :D

I saw one previous student mentioned that she didn't ever use the health plan. That's great! But what if you get really sick? What if you're at clinical, help lift a patient, and break your back/develop a hernia? What if you crack under the pressure and have to be admitted to Friends for a happy 7 day stay? You'll be glad you have that insurance! Another previous student said she just kept her other coverage which didn't really meet the requirements but it worked. Well, if Jefferson does find out that you first signed an affidavit saying you had insurance that meet all the requirements but were lying about it....at the least they can charge you that no insurance fee and freeze your banner until you do get proper insurance.

*ALSO* I made a reddit (a community!) for us to communicate on.... I've never really created a facebook group. I tried, but I had no one to invite and got stuck on that step. Interested parties please visit http://www.reddit.com/r/jeffersonfact

It's private to keep things "safe" and you'll have to create an account and request permission to gain viewing and submitting privileges. Plus the forum system is about 20X better than allnurses. If you've never seen reddit before, well, hopefully you see why I prefer it :D Hope to see you there!

Again, just to get the name out there without a wall of text:

Future Fact students! Let's plan meetups and share tips and tricks for this whole crazy process at www.reddit.com/r/jeffersonfact

Send a message to modestlouse and I will add you to the community-!!

Ever disappointed with the general allnurses community? Well check out www.reddit.com/r/nurses! An intelligent community full of helpful and less inflammatory folks (mostly young and male from what I can gather!)

Let's move this boat to reddit, a place that is much easier to navigate and keep track of topics! Hopefully see y'all there ;)

i made an account for reddit.com - how do i join the group since it's private?

thanks :)
