Jefferson FACT 2012

Published

Hello all!

I am so glad I was directed to this discussion forum. I believe it is a great place to share and learn. I am extremely interested in Jefferson's FACT program. I plan to apply for May 2012. I just wanted to reach out to anyone with similar interest and your thoughts on the process. I would like to know who else plans to apply for May 2012 and if your pre-req's have been completed.

Just to share a little about myself, I am completing my BS in Public Health at an online University (3 weeks left!) and have all the pre-req's completed. I am just excited about this next journey.

I also love how Jefferson FACT students automatically are accepted into the MSN program. My goal is to become a Women's Health NP, and Jefferson seems to be the way to go.

I would also love to hear from current students as well.

hi, i just wanted to write a note to those who have interviews scheduled in the next few weeks but haven't gone to them yet.

this is only my opinion, but i went to an interview last week with someone else in the admissions office (not ms. kelley, she said they are so busy that they are dividing up fact interviews), and i thought it was a tough interview. the questions felt very much like a "gatekeeping" reality check, and i just felt like i didn't get to represent myself accurately. it felt much more focused on the nitty gritty day-to-day of being a nurse, versus why i want to be a nurse, what my goals are with a bsn, why i want to go to jefferson, or even admissions getting a sense of my personality. i did receive an acceptance letter this morning, so i guess it went well, but i wanted to let other people know that it was tougher than i expected. i guess the interview was ultimately meant to be a realistic conversation about how nursing is a challenging field and not going to be magically easier from what i did before, and some people will be better at the more abstract (me!) and some will be better with the nitty gritty.

good luck to those of you who haven't heard! i'm still deciding between jeff & drexel, but maybe i will meet up with some of you at the accepted student events :-). for those of you who've been accepted to multiple schools, what's helping you decide that jeff is right for you? every place seems to have pros and cons, but i am leaning toward jeff because i just can't wait to start!

How long after your fall grades were posted to nursingCAS did you have to wait before being notified that you have an interview? NursingCAS posted my fall grades on last Friday.....

I was accepted to Villanova's BSN Express program and waitlisted at UPenn but I decided to choose Jeff over Villanova. The pros for Villanova were that it was very short commute (15 mins), a great overall school, they also just renovated the nursing school and it's beautiful (as well as the overall campus), the tuition is reasonable, it has a good reputation, they offer medical mission trips during the 2-week breaks for the nursing students (Peru and a few other countries). The pros for Jeff were that it's nursing school is one of the best in the area, great clinical sites at top hospitals (Jeff, HUP, CHOP), the option to get your MSN, shorter period for getting the BSN (12 months vs. 14 months for Nova), incorporation of technology in clincals (iPad). I think Jeff and Nova were a close tie for me. I personally loved Nova's nursing school. If they also offered the MSN, I think I would've chosen it over Jeff for sure. That was the one really big deciding factor for me since I'm seriously considering getting the MSN. Was anyone else in a similar situation?

I only applied to Jeff. And it was pretty much for the reasons you listed, Ash. I love the option of going straight into the MSN program. Also, its about a 20 minute train ride for me. Oh, and for the alotted time I gave myself to finish prereqs, it was perfect.

Hi Jeff students,

If there is anybody worrying about living expenses like I am, a quick question: would anybody be interested in sharing a room somewhere in Philadelphia? Preferably near Jefferson school?

@barbie, they didn't ask for my fall grades.

Oh! Did you have most of your sci pre Reqs completed before this year?

I got a B in anatomy/physiology and a B- in advanced Chem.... Did anyone else get a b- in a pre req? I'm worried this may preclude me from being accepted :(

Barbiemafia, I had a B- in Chem II as well and I did get accepted, so don't worry about that one.

Whew!!! Thank you I can breathe now :)

Does anyone know a more affordable health insurance plan than the one offered by the Jefferson School? Any advice appreciated...

Good luck for those who are still waiting for the acceptance decision.
