Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants?

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hello all,

I just wanted to start a thread for the Jefferson FACT 2008 applicants. First, I want to say that the Jefferson application process is fabulous. Keep in mind that I live in Philadelphia. I submitted the online application last Sunday night and mailed my application materials (i.e. transcripts, recommendations, etc) on Monday. They were signed for by Tuesday, then Wednesday I recieved a notice saying they are still waiting for the materials I sent. I, of course, called Jefferson on Thursday, and they confirmed having my application materials but had not put them in the system. By Friday, I received an email requesting an interview and an attachment in an Excel file listing all my coursework, a breakdown of my overall GPA, Science GPA, and Prerequisite GPA. They also highlighted the courses I had not completed yet. Needless to say, I am impressed with their organization.

Is anyone else applying the Jefferson FACT or even the APW program? Has anyone interviewed for the FACT program? Any advice on the interview or pogram would be great.

Hi,

I had been planning to apply for the scholarship for the FACT program. They had sent an email in late Feb saying they weren't sure how many they could afford to give this year, so they weren't releasing the application yet, but that we should start getting our ref letters and thinking about what to write on the essay. I called today to see when they were planning to release the applications and was told they decided not to give any scholarships this year. Has anyone else heard this? I am very upset not only that they decided, after many years of giving out work-commitment scholarships, to not give any, but also that we were never told about this or the possibility of it happening. When exactly were we to be notified of this decision?? Does anyone know what's going on and why they aren't giving any scholarships at all this year? I keep hoping that what I heard wasn't true.

I haven't heard anything about the scholarship since Feb. I emailed Nikki on Monday to see if there was an update, but she is on vacation til next week. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Whoa whoa.. that is news to me. A jeff faculty member actually told you that?? I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything after those emails... and beginning to think something was up - but NOT that they weren't giving out any!! Hmmm.. well I won't jump to conclusions, hopefully we can get that clarified soon.

I hope she was wrong too! The person I talked to was someone named Kathy in the finance (?) department who seemed pretty sure of what she was telling me. If this is officially confirmed, I am planning to write the Dean to tell her how disappointed I am in how this whole thing has been handled. I was expecting to hear that maybe they couldn't give as many scholarships as last year, but not that they were canceling the whole program. They've been giving these for a very long time - a friend of mine received one of their scholarships 15 years ago! Does this bode badly for the financial status of the hospital in general?

whoa! wow this is not cool! I picked Jeff over b/c of the chance to get a scholarship--well it was one big reason why. Maybe they will become available as we are into our program.... grr...lets hope, huh? Is anyone going to the thing on april 14th?

It's official...I just got the letter in the mail from the dean of the nursing school saying that they won't be giving out any scholarships this year. I am so bummed right now. I was really hoping for that scholarship.

Same,

This was pretty much the reason I chose Jeff.

I should have known... things like this always happen to me.

Oh well!

Reviving this thread...

Does anyone know why they decided to stop giving out scholarships? I'm accepted to the APW program, but had at least held out the possibility of getting a scholarship in Year 2. So I'd love to know if anyone has any more "scoop" on why they stopped giving out the scholarships.

Thanks!

I was one of the scholarship students from TJU this last year, and it has been rough. I am not entirely sure what happened but initially we were told we would interview for several positions during january and february, and then pick from what we were offered. I just got and accepted an offer last week- the last week of may and my life has been an absolute nightmare of stress and fear up until then. Many of us weren't given start dates until August 18th!!! And several people are still unemployed. There was some big problem with getting the budget approved, and fewer nurses than they expected left during the January attrition that happens each year, which is a good thing in some respects but terrible for us since there weren't any open positions.

People threatened legal action over this and I am not surprised the school decided to take a year off from the program. I don't really know the full back story but I have major regrets about having taken the scholarship, though at the time it felt like the only way I would swing it.

Thanks for the update, although this news is kind of scary! Several people who got scholarships are still unemployed, or several people from your class in general? Are/were you in the FACT or APW program?

Thanks for your input!

I was in FACT. I think everyone who has actively pursued employment has it. Only a few people are left from the scholarship program without employment. But Jeff has assured us all that everyone will have a job. Problem is, many positions don't open til august.

Thanks for the clarification. At least the August starters can get their NCLEX out of the way before they start working... (trying to put a positive spin on the situation).
