Hi, I'm a freshman at Widener University. Recently, I've decided that I want to pursue nursing instead. I initially wanted a career in nursing, but ended up going down a more traditional path instead, which was a mistake.

Widener has a nursing program, but it is very expensive and 3yrs in that program will put me under a lot of debt. I took some courses at DCCC during high school and think it's a fine school, with great location.

I know it's a bit late, but would it still be possible for me to enter their nursing program in the Fall. I have not taken the NET test yet, but plan to take it as soon as possible.

My current coursework/credentials:

1360 SAT (710 Math / 650 Verbal)

4.0 High school GPA

3.5 GPA at DCCC

3.56 GPA at Widener

DCCC Courses:

American Gov

American His

Widener Courses:

Eng Comp 1

International Relations

General Biology and Lab

General Chemistry and Lab

Next semester at Widener, I'm enrolled in the following courses:

Intro to Psychology

Intro to Criminal Justice

Into to Sociology

English Comp 2

200lvl political science course

300lvl political science course

Is it a realistic goal to attend nursing school by the fall semester? Also, the two political science courses aren't much use to me at this point, should I replace them with a course more relevant for nursing?

I appreciate any advice or information on the matter. I'm determined to enter nursing school, hopefully starting next fall.

I am not sure if DCCC has a program at the main campus I think they use Chester County Hosp as there clinical site. As far as getting into the fall program it may be full. I would take the NET test as fast as possible and call to see if they have any openings for fall. I would get out of the political classes and take a chem class and find out what other pre reqs you need. Good luck

This is off the subject but if you are trying to save money you might want to look into taking some CLEP tests. You could CLEP out of General Psychology, Sociology and Human Growth and Development. These classes are required for most nursing programs.

I just took the CLEP test for Human Growth and Development and General Psychology. I saved a lot of time and money. Just make sure that the nursing school that you are going to accepts them.

Also, I agree with Adamsmom. If you are going into nursing you will not need the political science courses or the criminal justice course. You may not even need the English 2 course unless you are looking at a BSN nursing program. I'm not sure about that one. I already took it but I don't think it was needed for my program. You need to decide what nursing program you want to go to because most programs require different prerequisites. That way you are not wasting time and money taking classes you do not need. Hi! There is a Nursing Program at DCCC's Main Campus. I just began my 2nd semester there. As far as I know right now from people in my non-NUS classes, the waiting list is pretty full for Sept. 2008 admission. The application process is open from I think August-February, so if you applied right now after taking the NET, you could most likely get a spot on the waiting list. It is possible to get a seat from the waiting list, because a lot of people give up their spots to go pursue something else. I think the program is excellent, and it is definitely worth the wait to get in. :specs:

you will be fine..i have a B.S in Criminal Justice from the university of scranton i got in 2002 ..decided to go back to school in 04 for nursing..DCCC was my choice..i had alot of the same classes u did when i was at scranton they transfered over, DCCC is inexpensive and let me tell you..i grad last year from DCCC with a A.S.N. associates in nursing, and I now have a job that is paying for the B.S. I recieved originally..funny right..but DCCC has ONE of the BEST nursing programs in PA..you recieve more experience clinically and have teachers that also teach at 4 year universities, and you are paying 1/3 of the price for the same caliber of education. at DCCC's nursing program in just 2 years of you learn more, then most BSN programs offer. I know I grad. from DCCC...and I loved the nursing program there. any quest. just e-mail me

I currently attend Widener. They have a lot of scholarship opportunities. It's a good nursing program overall. It is very expensive, however, I did get two really good scholarships, one of which is a full paid scholarship. This is my second degree and I didnt get any financial aid. Where there is a will, there is a way.

I am also considering attending Widener,i have a Bs in another field.Did they transfer most of your credits?are you in the part time or full time program?Please let me know more about the program,i need a career change so bad. I would rather consider Widener evening program,than the 2 year waiting lists for most programs.
