CCAC Spring 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

I hope someone can help me! I was in nursing program in 2010, taken Nursing classes on the internet, clinical and lab in North campus. My first semester in my first year I had a D. This affected my GPA. I have all my classes done, eg microbiology, human growth, english 1 & 2, elective, the only class i need to take are Nursing classes.

Due, to my failing the first time my GPA drop to 2.72, now I thinking of re-applying this spring 2013 and also planning taking two classes in fall to bring my GPA up. Does anybody know if I will be accepted. Also, i am flexible with any campus, which campus or time of program, student don't mostly apply to!

I am really desperate to get into the program this spring.

Well apps are due on the 31st and the only programs in the spring is day/night at Allegheny or Boyce. There's no fast track this spring. Also, they have since done away with the PAX exam so eligibility is favored to those who have completed all sciences (like you), but they raised the GPA to a 2.8. So unfortunately you don't qualify :( But you can always try, the worst they can say is no.

Thank you for your reply pghgirl7! Do you think is a good idea to write nursing admission, letting to know i'm taking a class this fall to bring up my GPA. Also, if a select allegheny and south campus evening help my chance of admission into the program than day time.

You can try, but I don't know if it will do any good. They seem to be sticklers for having things completed before apps are due and not before the school actually starts. I applied for January 2013; I have a 3.8 GPA (Micro screwed me up & I got a B, I had a 4.0 before that). I'm currently in A&P1 but it won't count towards my "bonus points" for admission. I'm in the RN Achievement program & I hope that helps boost my chances of being accepted (I was originally "guaranteed" to go by the program director, but now she's been backtracking her statements saying she can't guarantee). I'm a mess over this! I'm 27 yo, married with 3 kids, I don't have time to waste with school! I am eligible for their program, but because of their crap "bonus points", I may not be accepted, even if my GPA is better than someone else's.

All I can tell you is to try, it never hurts to at least apply.

Also, the only campuses that participate in the Spring program is Allegheny & Boyce. Those are the only 2 campus options (day & night at both). If you want South or North Hills, you'll have to wait to apply for Fall '13.

Your GPA is very high, you have very good chance of been accepted.

I will apply and also write to the Program Director, as you said no harm trying.

Unfortunately, the GPA high for their nursing program is a 6.25 (getting A's in everything, plus .75 bonus points for each of the sciences). A lot of 6.1 people didn't get in for Fall '12 :( Because of their stupid new rules (which are not outlined on the website or mandatory), it's making CCAC's nursing program the hardest to get into in the state. C'mon now, it's a community college, not Harvard!!! If I'm not accepted, I'll be applying to a hospital program, otherwise I'm not looking to attend CCAC till January '14. I can't wait that long :(

What? That's crazy! I just read your last post and that makes me sad. I'm going to apply for the fall '13 but my gap is not nearly as good as yours. I may have a 3.0 or a little above after this semester. Bummer! I'm working on getting all the extra classes out of the way so that I can just focus on nursing classes but I'm kinda picky on location. Would love to go to south. How did you find out who was accepted? Is it listed somewhere?

I go to mercy and so far I love it! I would deff consider the hospital programs, shadyside has a spring start date too!

No it's not lifted anywhere. That's the rumors going around & even a nursing advisor/science teachers will tell you that. It's ridiculous.

Sali22: I was thinking about Shadyside in January but I read that you had to of taken both A&P 1 & 2 for them to transfer. I'm currently in 1. I'd hate to have to waste money taking this class just to retake it there. I was also looking at Sewickley since I live out that way. It would take me 10-15 minutes to get there. I don't even want to go to a hospital program since CCAC is more flexible (I'm a married mom of 3), but I need to get into a career ASAP so I may not have a choice. I never thought it be this hard to go to school! LOL

The hospital programs can be pretty flexible, especially if you get the college courses out of the way first. Pretty much any program you participate in, you will have to take A&P 1 and 2 at the same school because different colleges structure the courses differently. Even though you are taking A&P 1 at CCAC, you can still go to a hospital program and take A&P 2 at CCAC and then transfer the credits in later.

I wasn't sure if I could do that...thanks for the info!
