I graduated in December and passed my NCLEX last week. I applied for 2 positions at Children's in the PICU & CICU. I've always wanted to work at Children's so I really really hope I get a call back. The postings were just listed, so I don't know how long it will be for me to hear something. Any tips on how to get in there?

CONGRATS!!! I received my ATT this afternoon and scheduled my exam on Feb 10th!! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time. I'm mostly terrified of SATA and pharm. My school did ATI and I've been continuing to do the practice tests that they gave us (old and new). I average in the high 60s to low-mid 70s on most of them. But I got a 51.7% on my latest pharm ATI practice test. What types (classification) of medications should I really focus on? There's no way I can study and remember ALL the meds and their side effects and contraindications. Is there any other type of breakdown you can share? For example how much of peds, maternity, mental health, prioritization, pharm, etc? I'd really appreciate the help and any other advice you can give me. Thanks!

You can request a transfer, but you must pass your courses and there has to be an open seat in the class you want to transfer into.

They'll last you the entire program (but you will need more books in your 3rd semester). Concentra charges $65 for the drug test. That's where I got mine done at. Titers are $15 each at the health dept. Immunizations are free if you don't have insurance. UPS charges $28 for the FBI fingerprinting. Criminal background is $10 and is done online. Child Abuse clearances are $10 money order only and mailed to the dept of public welfare. UPMC Urgent Care charges $30 for a physical. I bought my Littman stethoscope on eBay for $65. 1 uniform set cost $65 without shipping. You can also pick up in their store to avoid shipping costs. CPR at CCAC cost $50....cheapest I found. Anything else you guts need to know??

No, I'm sorry I don't know the class schedule for night. I know its 2 days a week 5-10. But I think clinicals are 3-11 Fridays (maybe Wednesdays, not sure) or 7-3 Saturdays The med/surg book is by Brunner & Suddarth. There's 2 volumes.

I do like the program, but I don't have anything to compare it to, to know any different. I do know that the teachers don't stick to the syllabus, lol. Your schedule will be as follows (for Agh day): Mondays (class 110) 8:30-11 lecture 11:30-2 lab Tuesdays or Wednesdays clinical 7-3 Thursdays (class 120) 8:30-12 Just some money-saving advice...get titers drawn at the Health Dept...it's much cheaper. If you don't have insurance, you will get any shots you need or TB test for free (titers are $15 each). I bought my Littman Classic II stethoscope on eBay (new) for $65 (compared to over $100 at a store). 1 set of scrubs with the lab coat costs $64 plus shipping, or you can opt to pick it up. You only need 1 set. The BLS CPR certification at CCAC is only $50 (elsewhere it could be up to $100). Drug test is $65 at Concentra, FBI fingerprint (done at UPS) is $28, and the criminal background check is $10 done online.

Congrats to all of you who have been accepted!! Im currently in my first semester at Allegheny and it is hard! But in pulling B's and passed my first ATI exam, which is incredible! A few things to prepare for: All documents must be dated AFTER your acceptance letter (background checks/titters/etc) It's going to cost roughly $400 to get all the stuff you need to do before you start (scrubs/stethoscope/titers/CPR/etc) Books will cost approx $1,000 if you buy all of them (required & optional) They will last the entire program with the exception of ATI, you will buy that every semester. The program is really hectic & unorganized, but try your best to stay focused. Our books didn't come in until the 3rd week of class!!! If you guys have any other questions, feel free to ask!!

How is everyone's first week going so far? So far so good over here, except we didn't get to go to clinicals because of the flu epidemic And our 110 and ATI packages are not at the bookstore yet!

Yeah we had our book list since the end of November, but too bad Allegheny's bookstore wasn't prepared! Hopefully they'll be in tomorrow, although I'm dreading paying over $1,000 for them!! Good luck to everyone! Tomorrow we start the beginning of no life for the next 2 years! Hope my kids understand that I'm doing this for them!
