Advice on clinical practice council

Specialties Pediatric

Published

Dear All,

In our hospital, we are in the process of promoting shared governance among RNs. we initiated clinical practice councils on all units. I was elected as the chair of the pediatric clinical practice council. we are working on developing general guidelines and clinical pathways that can help the pediatric as well as the neonatology RNs in their practice thus delivering high quality patient care. I need your advice related to websites or books that can be of further help to me as a start. In addition, I would like if you can share your opinions and your personal experiences related to this topic. Your feedback is highly appreciated.

sincerely,

Roro

Hi Roro,

That's great news! We practice Shared Gov in our facility, but the clinical practice council is separate. Our council (we call Professional Care Practice Committee, PCPC) is hosptal wide and meets together quarterly. Each unit does create their own guidelines/pathways, but if affects more than one unit, they take it to PCPC. It helps to maintain consistency throughout the hospital, when appropriate. Unfortunately, I don't know of any web sites or books on either topic. Usually when we create guidelines, we do a lot of medline searches for info. I am involved in both Shared Gov and PCPC, and enjoy them both. It's a lot more work, but definitely worth it.

Roro-

I found this old thread and was wondering how this went for you. What topics do you approach with this? What functions best and benefits the most from this. Can I get a copy of your mission?

Thanks
