Chance of getting hired as R.N. after working as a PCT/NA in hospital?

  1. 0
    Hello Everyone,

I am currently working as a PCT at a hospital, just started actually. I was wondering if anyone has started as a tech. and transitioned into an RN on a floor they were working on after graduation? I still have 1 year of studies (A.A.) to go but would just like to get a better idea of the chance of hire if anyone else has experienced such.

    Many thanks!

I was offered an interview on the floor I worked on as an LNA. The budget for the year exploded and they put a hiring freeze in effect, though. I'd say that it's certainly within the realm of possibility to get hired on your floor, especially if you have a good reputation as a team player and hard worker.

I think your chances would be higher than someone with little medical experience. Everyone I know who has had medical background had a much easier time getting interviews and jobs over those of us with little to no experience.

I took a PT job and have already been told that if I can apply for an internship and if I get it I would have to committ to 2 years with them. I am so lucky to work for the largest hospital provider in a very large metro area. I am all over this! It is worth the work as I have a year before I can apply, a semester wait period to see if I got in, and then 2 years of school. All for an ADN program. The perk though............they offer a great bridge to BSN and the tuition reimbursement at my job will cover my tuition! SCORE. Good luck to you.
P.S. SEVERAL nurses have said they wish they ahd done this. It makes school just a little easier

I am just in orientation right but have become friends with the clinical educator. She's already talked about switching me to an RN position once I finish school! Unfortunately I don't feel like this place would be a right fit for me. But I would gladly take it if I couldn't find any other positions.

    I did this.
I worked as a PCT on my unit for several years and then was practically handed an RN job on a platter.
