Hum, let's see...'whole hemisphere'... There is the Northern Hemisphere which contains all of Europe, all of North America, Central America and the Caribbean, the majority of Asia, 2/3 of Africa, and 1/10 of South America...so, no, the this whole hemisphere is NOT America!
We American's live in the Northern Hemisphere, on the continent of North America, in the country of the United States of America and are, once again...AMERICANs! - Jul 16, '12 by GitanoRNQuote from whatdoidonow?interesting...a lesson in geography, we can't deny we try to accommodate everyone'

I was innocently reading about the flu vaccine thread and ran across the anti-Americanism vibe- and as a parent with a son serving in the armed forces and a citizen in general I don't stand quietly by for this nonsense so common in today's world, no matter where I find it. The America-bashing is all about politics, afterall.
As a proud American, I feel I have done all I can here to take the proper stand for our country so I will not respond to any further comments of a non-nursing nature and let the thread get back to the flu discussion.
I have learned much on AllNurse about the profession, and, look forward to learning more. I have appreciated everyone's nursing experience that has been shared here. Thanks so much! - Jul 16, '12 by morteAre you being purposefully obtuse? there is north/south, and east/west.
and yes we are the USA, but we are not all that is america.Quote from whatdoIdonow?'

so i think you mean as a citizen of the usa. second of all...god given? i think not....you get your rights from the constitution and the bill of rights.
that said you are correct. as a citizen you have the right to refuse. as a healthcare worker you have the right to get the shot or wear a mask all shift every shift. also, you have the right to change careers.
mindlor...so sad you believe a piece of paper and a group of men gave you your rights. when someone does something you do not like you can turn away or tell them you don't like it...they can change it, move it, or tell you to turn away. we have that ability becuase we are human beings with a mind and likes and dislikes...the bill of rights didn't add to that or take it away. sorry its not about vaccines guys but i've already posted lots, lol - Jul 20, '12 by GitanoRNa friendly reminder to adhere to the subject on hand which is the flu/vaccine, in honor to the op...thank you.
- Jul 27, '12 by bubblejet50I have received the flu shot before but one year I finally had an allergic reaction. So now I have to provide places of employment and my past schools stating this. I personally don't think the flu shot is anymore effective than skipping out on it. I have actually gotten the flu less now that I don't get the shot. I've never had the flumist since I'm asthmatic but around here thats an accepted alternative. Its a good idea but what if the guessed strain doesnt match the actual strain. Remember all the h1n1 commotion? All those people got sick and many had gotten the vaccine. I think that as long as the workplace will reimburse for it healthcare workers should take up on it. I feel like there should be a refusal method in place though. Do places of employment allow refusals for religious beliefs? Im not familiar with this since it never applied to me. But I guess look.at society and schools and colleges requiring vaccinations. I guess its the same idea. I dont know. I.could argue both sides. Just some food for thought
