PCC RN school schedule??

U.S.A. Oregon

I have been asking around about PCC nursing school schedule. The official word is "8am- 5pm M-F". Does anyone know if this is absolutely solid, or if there are days that you get out early? If so does it fluctuate from term to term? I will be applying and wondering how I could weave my job into the schedule....Thanks !

The info from the PCC advising office was that last year it was Mon, Tue, 8-3 class/lab, wed off, and Thur Fri 7-3 clinical. They are not sure it will be the same (thanks to tiffinapit who gathered that info for us) when we get our packets the 3rd week of june we might know more.

The standard answer from the nursing program advisors I have got from most schools is "don't plan to work the first year." you pull 12-15 credits of difficult material per term and that doesn't include any Gen Ed classes you might need to round out your credits. My personal advice from other nursing students was to take Micro and Stats before you start the Nursing Program because they are heavy load classes - I took that advice and I am glad I did because they were both pretty text/study intensive. Hope that helps.:D

Thanks so much dharmawalk. It is nice to know there is a little wiggle room. I have taken MICRO. This info was really helpful. Thanks again!

the nursing program is full time, generally mon and tues and your lab lecture and then thurs fri are your clinical days. Clinical starts at 0630am. I would not plan on being able to work on Wensdays as there is a lab that is on that day, plus you will need to work in a time to study and then there is the clinical prep, you go to your facility the afternoon before, pick your patient and then you have to look up diagnosis and meds and know your meds before going to clinical the next morning, depending on your patient and your clinical instructor your prep could last for many hours. As you will be in LTC the first term and people in there some times have close to 30 meds.

I am taking micro this fall..I'm afraid! lol..Taking Stats this summer...

We just need to plan not to have any social life and hardly any time with our families for a few years...that's the schedule I'm counting on ;-) J/K...kinda..I hope!

Tiff can you switch those classes and take Micro in the summer and Stats in the fall? Or stats next summer since you have 3 years to get it done?

Dharma-it is actually better that I take Stats by itself if I can, I struggle terribly in math so it's in my best interest to take it in the summer. But thanks for the suggestion! Since I just took 111c I would rather finish up the Math while it's fresh in my head...

I am still not clear if we can talk about specific instructors on here, but I loved Muzos for stats. She explains it step by step as well as writes down each step. She doesn't throw numbers around (I get confused if I don't know where a number came from). So, if you have any fears at all, she is the one to take.

I know it sounds odd.....but there's not much math in Stats. Most of it is done with your TI-83 calculator or in Excel.

That's true about Statistics... I actually LOVED it, and highly recommend Nancy Roper who also teaches it very well!

I'm not really a math person either, but I really enjoyed stats. It's a fun class. The math part of it is actually quite easy, especially if you have recently come from math 111b or c. It's really about learning how to think in a stats sort of way. I thought it was fun, even though I was dreading it. Go into it with an open mind, and fresh batteries in your calculator :lol2:

For those of you who got accepted at PCC (and the alternates too), how many admission points did you have(before essay and interview)?
