OHSU's Accelerated BSN program 2012

U.S.A. Oregon

Hi! I live in Portland, OR and want to apply for OHSU's accelerated bachelor's program for nursing, but there isn't a lot of information out there on it. I've browsed their website, but it doesn't answer all the questions I have. I would love to know exactly what they judge you on in order to get in. I know your GPA and essays are extremely important, but do they care if you have had work history, or your CNA license or not? I don't have any experience, but have a 4.0 so far in my pre-reqs, and a 3.6 in my previous bachelor's degree (in a social work field). Anyway, I want to apply for the program to enter it in the summer of 2012, so I can finish up my pre-req's and what not. I am just wondering what else I need to do, because I really want in. Also, how much does it cost, and being accelerated, is it 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, or what? I have two kids I'm going to need to find childcare for while I'm in school, so I just want to know what I'm in for. anyway, if you can help me answer any of these questions, I would so greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

oh and i would be entering the summer program at OHSU!

That is too funny! Yeah, I am finishing up here at Berkeley and then planning on entering the JH summer program. I didn't know it would be starting at the end of May (I had been told early June back when I applied). So yes, I'm in a bit of a panic! I would really just like to know about OHSU so I can be set either way. From what I've read in past blogs, it seems like they would call you if you got in around late March...

wow. that's a tight relocation timeframe! I called OHSU admissions and they said mid April but really who knows! if you hear anything more let me know!

I just got my acceptance letter for the OHSU accelerated bachelor's to master's in Midwifery (starts in June) on Tuesday, but I haven't heard back from the accelerated bachelor's program yet (also starts in June). When I had my interview, they told me they send out a first round of acceptances and wait to hear back (I had to reply by the 16th) and then send out another round of acceptances before they send out the wait-list and denial letters.

I can't wait to hear back from OHSU to see if I got into the ASBN program... But not until mid-April? Man, that is so far away... Thanks for the heads up. Let me know if any of you hear back sooner.

Hello everyone, I have been following this post and hope you all get in to your programs!

I am going to apply to the Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's in Midwifery next year (start summer 2013).

For those of you that have applied, what was your GRE score? Were your essays more emotional or factual?

Thanks for any tips :)

Hi Areawoman,

Congrats on your acceptance! Just to clarify, did you have to notify them by March or April 16th? I'm doing the waiting game as well... :)

Hi All! I am waiting to hear about the ABSN program, too. It looks like last year acceptances were coming out at the end of March but this year it is mid-April? I can't wait to find out one way or the other. :)

i contacted a person at OHSU and she said they are tentatively planning to notify around april 15th...probably before that or right after as that day is sunday.

Ah, for some reason I just got this now -- I had to notify them by March 16th, and they deposited my check on the 22nd.

Hi Habitus and Berkeleygirl - Looks like I'm in the same boat as you both, I got into Johns Hopkins, but am anxiously waiting to hear from OHSU. From reading these posts, looks like decisions will be sent out mid-April. I'm planning on attending the accepted students day at JHU on April 20th. Are either of you going? If not, I can try and get any questions answered that you may have. I'll be visiting several neighborhoods while I'm there such as Fells Point, Charles Village, and Mt Vernon, so can share my experiences with you if it is helpful.

JHU has impressed me on many levels, but I truly love Oregon, so am leaning towards staying here if I get into OHSU. It sounds like you are both leaning in that direction also? Anyway, good luck and let me know if I can help with any brainstorming!

Take care :-)
