LPN to RN programs?

Hi everyone. I need your help. I may possibly be moving to Portland this summer. The problem is that I am only half way through my education to getting my RN. I will be at LPN level when I move and will transfer my liscence to OR. I want to continue to get my RN but the ADN programs there won't accept my education. I actually talked to one of the community colleges and they said, despite having and LPN, they wouldn't have the man power to look at all my syllabi to see what "I really learned". According to them I would have to start all over!!! Here in AZ all our community college programs offer the LPN to RN program in the midst of their 4 semester/Block RN program provided there is space, so this was very surprising to me. Does anyone know of cc's that offer this drop in? Do you know of any particular LPN to RN programs in the Portland area? And what is this I hear about new grads not being able to get jobs? I suppose the chances are even worse for an LPN new grad. I'm getting worried here seeing as I have opportunities where I am at but some life circumstances may take me to OR. Thank you for your help.

according to the oregon state board of nursing http://www.oregon.gov/osbn/rn_lpnprograms.shtml there is only one lpn to rn program and it is in newport on the oregon coast. newport is located pretty far south of the portland area.

You might want to check out Clark College in Vancouver, WA (just north of Portland). I know a nurse who just completed her LPN-to-RN at Clark. Good luck! :)

Thanks. I am checking it out. I have literally emailed all the community colleges in Oregon and have YET to receive anything encouraging back. In fact MANY of them have told me to stay where I am at. Chuckle. At least they are honest!

I am an LPN and had hoped to finish my school in WA when I moved there. But alas, it was more difficult than I had imagined. Each school had a variety of pre-req's that I would need to take and then once I got them for one of the schools (6 extra classes thank you very much) they changed the program and I wasn't accepted.

I do know LCC is offering LPN to RN, but if you didn't attend school there before it is harder for you to get admitted. I am hoping to get back there as that was where I started. But, they too have changed their program pre-reqs and so don't know what I am up against yet.

If I can't get in locally...I am doing the ONLINE LPN to RN. I have talked to a few folks who have done that, and although it is a bit more spendy and may take a little longer, they are outstanding nurses. And...they get the RN pay!

Hope you find what you are hoping for. Keep us all informed. There are many of us LPN's out there that want to get back into school and so we have to share out knowledge of what is working best.

Hi there..Im currently doing an LPN program and was going to do the excelsior/collegenetwork lpn to rn after i was done. Recently i found out that that program is 8months out for their clinicals and you can't schedule clinicals until your program is done..any ideas? anybody know more about this program? thanks

Even though the CPNE has a 6-8 month wait it will still be quicker for me than trying to get into Clark or Lower Columbia for an LPN to RN bridge. Just a word of advice though -I made the mistake of signing with TCN and although it's nice to have all the info in one place, I still go thru my other texts. I just took the EC health saftey exam and all I needed to know I found in other books also.

I'd like to know that too. The big question is: does the OSBN allow Excelsior grads to sit for the NCLEX??

I checked with OSBN and they said it was accredited and accepted by them so I pretty sure that means they will allow a graduate from there sit for the NCLEX. I hope this helps you answer your question.

Thank you! Yes, I checked with them today and they told me the same thing. Excelsior Grads ARE eligible to sit for NCLEX in Oregon and she doesn't see anything changing anytime soon. That is encouraging, and looks like a good option for me.

The only downside is studying all alone without support or classmates to keep you motivated, so if anyone near Portland is doing Excelsior, please PM me!!! Lets get through it together, form a study group, etc.
