Does it snow in Portland?

lol weird i know. But if we go there, it would be this fall/winter. What are the seasons like there??? :chuckle

I live across the bridge in Vancouver so the weather is prety similar.

"Portland" covers a big area, the weather really depends on where you are...the West Hills are higher than down town and are more prone to get some snow & ice as is the extreme East side closre to the Gorge. We (Vancouver and most of Portland) had a 10 day run of snow & ice that started on New Years Eve (I remember because it was my birthday). In the 20 years (next month) it is the first time I ever saw it like that. Ususlly we get a few sprinkles of snow that disrupt the morning commute and turn to rain by mid morning. Also we have a lot of frosty morning roads.

In general it is around 40-44 and most days are gray, we get a lot of rain but not as much as Puget Sound or the coast.

It snowed some last winter. It got icy for about one week, which is worse for Oregonians, because we don't have the proper equipment to clear all the side streets. Usually it rains here during the Winter months.

It certainly has alot less snow than Chicago does. I'm from Wisconsin, so it's a piece of cake here compared to the midwest.

I love Oregon!!!

see i LOVE the snow. But not TOO much ya know? UGH this is such a hard thing to decide. lol Right now we are in WY and they get tons of snow here (usually) although not this year.

oh my wasn't that a fun first 3 days! :rotfl: i was "walking in my winter wonderland." then when the next 5 inches piled onto the first 8 and i couldn't get my honda out of my culdesac i started getting irritable. finally some friends from battleground got their big king cab truck out and came and rescued us and another set of friends went and got another family and we all went and hung out at their place for a sleepover. The problem with getting snow in our area is that no one is really "prepared" for it. we can handle 1-2 inches (maybe) but when it turns to ice or dumps snow, the whole city pretty much shuts down. 2 weeks after the storm hit and the main roads were cleared finally, 12 of us girls were heading out for our annual beach house trip, and there were jacknifed semi-trucks EVERYWHERE! a trip that should take 2 hours took 3.5 because of all the delays. But hey i love the portland/vancouver area and wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

smkoepke! I didn't realize you were so close by. Heck, we would have come pull you out with our 4WD.

A friend of ours works with my husband, he brought his computer (NOT a lap top) and camped in my sewing room for a week. He is from Texas & drives a tiny sports car he refused to drive until we had dry pavement.

The snow plows piled snow in at the end of a cul de sac another friend lives on, it was a MONTH before it all melted.

SnowyMtn...one nice thing about the area is within a 2 hour is more snow than most people want.

hmmmmmm.....sounds intriguing. lol I love it, although i don't like being snowed in. Its happened more than once around here. lol So would you say that in the area you get snow on a regular basis, just not accumulation??

It seems that it gets foggy/rainy more than snowy. It did snow (as others have mentioned) a couple of times last year, but it is more of a sprinkling of snow and icy roads...As kids-r-fun mentioned, there is lots of snow/skiing pretty close by no matter where you are in the state. I love oregon because you actually get all four seasons--though the winter is usually pretty mild. Fall is my favorite!

Yep, we get pretty excited around here when there's a prospect of snow......but we had TOO MUCH last winter!! Some years we don't get any at all, others we get an inch or two, sometimes 2-3 times during the course of a winter. This past winter, however, was a doozy: of course, living up in the foothills where I am, there's a much better chance of getting a dusting, but in December and January we got a foot at one time, ten inches at another, and about the time some of it would melt, we'd get four or five more inches. This went on for a couple of weeks.......it took almost a month for all of it to go away. Even in downtown Albany, there was probably six inches on the ground right after New Year's, and then we had this spectacular ice storm to finish it off (including five bazillion trees around the city).

But that's not the usual for our area......all we get is rain most of the time, and a lot of it. That's what makes the summer and fall so wonderful here. :)

on the clark college campus (my school) they pushed it into 12 foot plies of snow in the parking lots and they took over a month to melt! it was pretty wild to see. Nice to see "neighbors" on the board! :)

Oh good grief. I graduated from Clark (1990) and live behind the mall.
