Do hospitals help pay off student loans?

U.S.A. Oregon

PLEASE help!

I am wondering if any hospitals in oregon offer to pay off or aid their nurses in paying off student loans. I will be a nursing student in January at University of Portland and if I just take out student loans, I'll be in debt about $100,000 when I am done. This is a little bit terrifying.

I am looking into joining ROTC because they will pay for everything if I sign a four year contract with the military. I would rather not do this (God bless those who do) and have some kind of help with my future employer (i.e. a hospital) to pay off my enormous amount in student loans.

Before I sign a contract with the ROTC, I'd like to have any information on hospitals helping their employees with their student loans.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Since you are going to be attending U of P have you looked into the Providence Scholar Program? I believe that Providence hospital will pay some of your tuition if you agree to work for them for a certain amount of time if you attend University of Portland for nursing school. Also, Kaiser has a tuition reimbursement program and Willamette Falls Hospital in Oregon City (which just currently became a part of Providence) also has a reimbursement program. I'm sure there are more in the area; when you go to company websites, look at what they offer for employee benefits and apply to the jobs that offer to help pay back the student loans.

Im not for sure if they pay off outstanding loans they have tuition assistance and grants but I don't know if they pay off what u already borrowed..you might be able to work something out with them if u sign a contract saying you will work with them, but the best thing to do is ask the hospital!!!

I think for you to get the best and accurate infromation is to call around to the hospitals themselves. The Providence Scholar is a good option if you can get it, because that will provide you with a job which is proving to be hard around here for new grads.

The hsopital that I work at will provide tutition reimbersment, after working full time for a year. They wont repay outstanding loans. I think that a couple of years ago when new grads could find positions there were offers from hospitals to repay loans. However the Portland market is saturated with new grads right now and hospitals dont need to make those offers anymore.

yeah i applied for the prov scholars but i sucked up teh interview and did not get it. providence has tuition reimbursement, but it's only up to like 1500 and that's a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of UP. ugh. maybe i'll just do the air force ROTC. i'll be guaranteed a job and i'lll go to school for freee...
