How to get into a service you like ?

Specialties Operating Room

Ive been in the OR for about a year (as a new grad) and have found a service that I very much like.

Any advice how to get thrown in there so that it sort of becomes "my service?"

Outside of the typical work super hard, and show interest, any other advice ?

(and yes I expect many responses saying I should try to be more well rounded etc etc, and I believe I will continue to see a lot of everything, even if im hopefully primarily doing one thing)

So id like to just focus on what i enjoy and makes me happy, and go from there, thanks !

I'm not sure how it is in your hospital, but I work in a children's hospital, so i get exposure to all of the various services, but was asked by my charge nurse what 3 services I enjoyed the most... since then, she tries to place me in one of those when they are available unless I ask to be put in a particular OR for the day.

Have you talked to your Charge Nurse or Manager about this?

Ask your manager and service coordinator

Approach the team leader of the service you are interested in, and express your interest and desire to be a part of the team. Offer to help the team leader with any tasks that are needed. Ask the charge nurse to assign you to those rooms when possible. Good Luck!
