TWU Spring 2014 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those hoping to get into TWU starting Spring 2014. My name is Kia and I have already sent in my application and completed my TEAS V exam. I'll be in the Denton campus patho class this fall (trying to wait patiently for an acceptance letter-GOD willing).

On the information packet it says "Please fax the original signed and completed immunization Record for Nursing Majors to student Health Services in Denton prior to DECEMBER 4TH"

I need 2 MMR booster each 28 days apart (because I have low mumps immunity). My second booster will be DECEMBER 12TH. Does anyone know if that will be okay and Twu will still accept this delay since we are suppose to turn everything in prior to Dec 4th?

I believe you should be ok, as long as you can show you are on track. Fax whatever you have as soon as you can and re-fax your new records when you have updates (2nd booster, positive titer, etc...) BTW, it takes 24-48 hours for Denton to update your records once you fax something, so don't freak out before 2 business days have passed.

You may need to have a positive titer before you start clinical, but I don't see them penalizing you because you didn't know you weren't immune something and had to restart a series (happens to lots of students & even faculty).

Oh and emailing is just fine too right? Or do you suggest to fax?

I have always faxed my information over. If you are going to the Houston campus, Student Life on the 2nd floor (Left from stairs or elevators) will fax it for you.

Hey you all, I just want to ask to you guys that have jobs. Do you plan keep your jobs during nursing school? I have an interview with methodist hospital for a cna part time job. I wanted that job before, but Honestly now I am starting to freak out, wondering if its a good idea. I will appreciate your ideas and some testimonies for those that keep working during nursing school. Thanks

Is the drug testing gonna be done during orientation or were we suppose to receive an email after registering for the test with the location, date and time?

I recently started working as a tech in Denton. I plan to keep my job for the medical experience and they will pay for school upfront. I get to make my schedule so I plan to work only weekends while in school. If you can do that then working part time should be doable. I work full-time and the pay is pretty good.

@kia, what kind of tech are you?

I work in Houston as a medication coordinator and my plan is to keep working as long as I can.

So I just called Immunization department both in Denton and Houston... One lady said she doesn't know about if we need both shots and titer done for MMR. The other said we need both. So I guess... even your lab work shows MMR positive but you cannot find MMR shots record anymore, then it is best to take the shots again. My physician even said it is no need.... well anyone hear different story from school? would like to know thanks!

You only need shots if your titer comes back and you have low immunity to something.
