Nursing Students School Programs

Hello all, I'm looking at going back for my MSN in Nursing Education and I have been looking at a number of programs to see which will be the best fit for me at this time in my life. I'm looking for a program that is (1) primarily online (with the exception of the clinical/practical component); (2) has a good reputation (I think it is helpful if they have a "brick and mortar" program as well); and (3) is reasonably affordable.

I have reviewed many schools and I believe that Sacred Heart University is going to be the right program for me. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with their online program (any info. about MSN in Nursing Edu. would be awesome) and if you could tell me anything about it from the student perspective.

Do you feel well supported as a student? Do you feel like you have adequate resources and time to complete the course work? Do you feel well prepared to enter the workforce with your MSN? What has been most challenging about the program? Any advice for someone just starting out?

Thank you!

Does anyone go to Sacred Heart? Any feedback on the MSN program?

I'm starting the SHU MSN program for CNL August 25th. Did you decide to go here?

A little late, but I wanted to add this. I enrolled in 2012 into the Sacred Heart ADN-BSN-MSN program, I had nothing but great things to say, until I entered the masters program. At that time, they also rolled out a FNP program. I reached out to my advisor to enquire how i could enter the program/was it possible or do post graduate certificate.

My advisor was nothing btu rude, telling me she didn't recommend me for the program based on my academic performance!!! (FYI my lost grade was in religion ZZZZZ b-) !!!!!

When i told her i planned to transfer out to get into a different FNP program, she said obviously sacred heart wasn't the place for me. WHAT?!

Sorry I haven't been watching this thread or posting on Allnurses as much as I used to but I did see your post so I thought I would respond.

To update you, I have enrolled in the MSN in Nursing Education at Sacred Heart and I am very happy with the program so far. The workload is challenging but reasonable and the faculty have been very helpful and accomdating to the needs of students who still work full-time. I will say that the MSN in Family NP program and MSN in Nursing Education/Patient Care Services Administration/Clinical Nurse Leadership program are two very separate programs. They do have a few common core courses according to the curriculum that are completed online but they will not combine the two groups at this time and if you should decide to switch from one program to another (Nursing Edu./PCSA/CNL to the FNP Program) you will have to stop taking classes and wait to apply to the FNP program which the college will strongly discourage.

I was disappointed to see that SHU has not been able to bring both of these programs together in a more cohesive way, which is consistent with the MSN programs at other colleges/universities, so that the students can meet and interact with each other. However, my adviser did said that is a priority issue that the new director of the School of Nursing is currently working on. Hopefully, this will happen soon so that if future students should decided to switch over to the FNP program early on in this process it will be a smoother transition and students from either program can take some of the beginning classes together to have a better appreciation for the various graduate-level roles in nursing. What class are you taking in the fall nonnocere1988?

[h=1]Hi cjcsoon2bnp[/h]Its been a while since I been on AllNurse and this thread is old. I graduated with my BSN in 2011. I have been working as in-patient for 5 years. I have worked in different specialties adult and pediatrics. I am researching Capella, Chamberline, and Sacred Heart University. How was your experience as a student? How was the course work? How is your experience now as Nurse Educator?

Thank you in advance. On Best wishes on your journey!
