Columbia University MDE 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone who has been accepted into the next starting cohort for this program! :D

I am starting this super early because I have already begun to freak out lol.

Is anyone applying for the MDE MDE/DNP or MDE/PHD program for 2017?

This is my dream program !!

I am prepping for the GRE at this point which I am taking in August. It has been a long arduous road for me to say the least and I am ready to send my app off with a prayer. Any advice from current/previous students of this program or applicants welcome! And to my fellow applicants what other programs are you applying to? And most importantly good luck to everyone. The application opens August of 2016 :D

bumpity. looking for some more info on this program stats etc. Interested in the psych option.

I'm applying! It's actually the only program I'm applying to this year because of pre-reqs (Columbia's requirements are a bit easier than others and I'll need more time to do more classes to apply elsewhere). I went to an info session a few weeks ago that made me all the more excited. I'm applying to just the MDE. I'd like a few years of experience before making a decision about the doctorate level education.

It's a total career change for me from business consulting. My husband works in medicine and many of our friends, so I've been slowly indoctrinated over the years :) I'm taking a CNA course right now to try to learn some basics and have a little bit of patient contact since I'm certainly lacking that now. They say they want a group with diverse backgrounds...so fingers crossed.

That sounds great ! Did they mention anything about stats or GRE scores at the info sessions? Also are you from NYC. Taking a CNA course sounds like a great idea for you ! CNAs are amazing, you will never forget your experience as one ! :D

They don't have specific scores - but generally look for people to score over the 50th percentile on the GREs. They emphasized the personal statement/cv/recommendations are more important than the scores generally.

Yes, I live in NYC.

What is your background? Are you applying with experience in a hospital setting?

I am OT interested in mental health.

I'm planning to apply this fall as well. I'm from a non-healthcare background; this is my second career. I went to an information session earlier this year, and really appreciated how the school values life experience in fields outside of healthcare. Their SON magazine featured stories from all sorts of people currently in the program with vastly different "former lives."

For now I'm plugging away at the last of my pre-reqs, and the GRE is looming soon. Good luck to everyone!

Thats awesome but I'm super nervous about the GRE. :/ I currently work for a surgeon, only in the office, but I do work hands on with our patients. This job was completely unexpected, but, it led me to pursuing this path. My BA is in Political Science !

I like their approach to choosing candidates. Good luck on your last pre-reqs and good luck on the GRE. I am also prepping to take it. When are you taking it ? I'm set to take it in August !! My first time.

P.S. I gotta check out the SON magazine of theirs ;) Maybe in between some GRE prep haha

Here are the magazine archives -- the article I saw was in the Fall/Winter 2015 issue.

And this link has some good info on the new MDE program, from the school's perspective at least:

I take the GRE at the end of this month! I've been working really hard on the math. Ready to get it DONE.

Hi, I will be applying this Fall as well for MDE 17. I've just been doing my research on the school, getting my pre-reqs in order and seeing how to even approach this GRE. I MAY apply to one other school, but Columbia is really my dream and first choice. My Bachelors is also in Political Science but I also got training as a Phlebotomist in college which is where my love for the health care environment came from. I am in Central Florida good luck to everyone!

@agirlhasnoname Good luck on it ! I'm so nervous about that GRE. lol I always have a good internal meltdown during a standardized test. :drowning:
