APU ELM Fall 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello Everyone :)

I am looking to apply for the Fall 2018 ELM program at APU. I'll be done with my bachelors early 2018 and finishing up Organic Chemistry before I submit my application. I'm making this post to see where other people are at looking to apply and we all can help each other out if needed. Good luck to everyone :)

I got a package yesterday! It mainly just says congratulations. Nothing about deposits or anything.

I received my rejection letter in the mail today. Oh well, I'm planing on reapplying the next application cycle. And it's possible I'll get into another school sooner. Good luck everyone!! I wish you all the best!!

Sorry to hear about not getting in, I have read in past forums those that reapplied did get in, so don't give up!

Do you mind sharing your GPA and experience? What campus did you apply to? I am going to apply and I am just not sure what a competitive GPA would be. From what I have read they had a lot of applicants for this term.

I actually didn't recieve anything in mail, but the main campus told me I was rejected. I also plan on applying for the next cycle, and was told that Fall cycle is the most competitive with summer being the least.

I am unsure what my GPA is because I calculated differently (around 3.8 science pre-req and 3.5 non-science) but was told it was over 3.5 in each catagory with 3.2 overall with Microbiology degree. I have limited medical experience with 2 years of research at my school.

I heard that a lot of acceptance has to do with the interview, so I wonder if it's okay to keep my application as is... anyway Good Luck everyone!

@aschreiman

Like @NursingSanDiego said, I'm unsure of how they calculate your GPA. I'm planning on making an appointment with them to ask how I can improve my application. I have a BA in philosophy from UC Santa Barbara with a 3.31 undergrad gpa. I took all the prereqs except biochem/ochem and I have a 4.0 in the prereqs. I'm taking ochem/biochem along with Conversational Spanish (thought that might look good) this semester.

I've been a CNA for over a year now. I was a CNA for an agency back in Hawaii and now I have a CNA job in rehab/post-acute care in California. I job shadowed in the ER and OR for many years cuz both my parents are physicians. I also worked on the campus where I took the prereqs for 2 years doing campus health promotion (like organizing blood drives and health fairs). I also put on my application my 100 hour volunteership with Kaiser Permanente in Hawaii.

I applied for Fall 2018 for the main campus but I told them in interview that I would take any campus or any semester. I'm wondering if many people have to apply a few times before getting in? Also maybe I did something wrong in the interview? Also I do have a trespassing violation on my record from back in Hawaii so I'm wondering if they don't want any criminal background whatsoever, even though my offense was only a violation? Idk!

My plan is to reapply for Summer 2019 for the San Bernardino Campus. I'm also gonna make an appointment in person to see if it's worth it to reapply. Cuz it's possible they just don't want me for some reason.

@NursingSanDiego

Where else did you apply?? If I manage to get in somewhere else I'll probably take that spot but if not I'll reapply for Summer 2019

@pries14 and @BR89 do you guys think you'll accept the offer for Fall 2018? if so, lets start a group chat!

Hi @SomedayFNP,

I haven't applied anywhere else because I felt a deep connection to APU that compelled me to re-apply rather than to move on. I was told that last year they had only 80 something applicants during the summer so I am hoping if spring doesn't work out I can hopefully get into summer. *Fingers crossed*

If we reapply, do we have to submit new applications and recommendation letters?

@FutureRN3377

I talked to William yesterday and he said if you plan on re-using everything, then just re-submit the application only. I tried doing this online but I couldn't so I plan on sending a physical copy of the application.

If you plan on updating your personal statement or etc, you need to submit them along with your new application. I hope this makes sense! LOL

I was told to submit an updated resume and updated transcripts and that a new personal statement and new rec forms were optional.

I would like to say hello to everyone as I've been checking this over the past couple of weeks and it's been helpful. Unfortunately I received a rejection letter today for the IE campus in fall 2018 and I am a bit shocked. I know she said there were only about 20 spots, but I thought I was very competitive. I will reapply for the summer, if I'm not too late for the spring.

My info:

BS Biochem (was pre-med) with an overall of over 3.59. I say over because I haven't calculated in all the prereqs I took after I graduated.

I had all A's in my prereqs except I think I had a B in one of them.

I only need that darn research methods class

2 years as EMT with 1 in the field and 1 in the emergency dept at a level 1 trauma center.

Great recs

200+ hours volunteering in research, ED, and student orgs

I am a male (lol i know this sounds wrong, but you know the demos of nursing)

The interview went really well imo, Beverly said she really liked everything I had to offer and said I would be successful in the program. I AM CONFUSED! Where can I improve now??? The letter doesn't even say please reapply or anything like that.

Thinking about every possible error I could have made I found that maybe my letter to the dean and my end goal answer during the interview could have done it. The website was quite confusing as to if the program offered the FNP as part of it instead of just a MSN-RN, so I wrote what I would do with a MSN only and during the interview I didn't stress I wanted to be an FNP, because again, I didn't really know that that was the progams purpose. I know! I should have researched it better :(

Thanks for reading and letting me vent. Any responses are appreciated.
