2018 UPenn BSN/MSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Greetings fellow 2018 UPenn BSN/MSN applicants! Just thought I could start a thread for the incoming applicants so we can help each other out through the application process.

Does anyone know if we need to submit separate transcripts for study abroad programs if it's already clearly stated on our official undergraduate transcript? Thanks! : )

Ugh literally SAME! That's really how I'm feeling, too. After I interviewed at Yale, I thought I was definitely going there. I'll outline my pro/con list for you:

PENN:

Pros -- Best PMHNP program. Faculty with my research interests. Clinical opportunities at CHOP and HUP and other great hospitals. Living in Philadelphia. 4 months shorter. Better housing (cheaper/greater amounts).

Cons -- Second bachelor's degree is redundant. Expensive.

YALE:

Pros -- Loved the program. Felt like home. Professors seem to really care about students. Year-long clinical. Name recognition. Very collaborative/integrative with arts and music. Less expensive overall.

Cons -- New Haven is small, so lack of housing/activities. May have to drive 45 min-1 hour for clinicals.

This is what I have so far... What are you thinking? Honestly, sometimes I feel like I should just flip a coin lol

I felt the same when I was at Yale. They were really hospitable and both the students and faculty were very open and honest about the program. I also have a friend in the GEPN program who is very happy with his decision. I have also appreciated how easy it is to communicate with them and their quick responses which I haven't gotten all too much with Penn.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with your pro/cons with both programs. My other major consideration is time of departure. The move would be easier in August due to budget constraints and it would provide my partner more time to find work in a new area. I'm going to keep an open mind for admin day and see if I can coalesce around a decision afterwards. It looks like you plan to go too! It would be great to chat in-person too.

Yes! I agree -- they have been very communicable and easy to get ahold of. I also would love to have the summer to work and save up money for the move. Another pro to Yale is that Connecticut is a full independent practice state, which would be amazing. I think overall, I like Yale's program better, and YSN in general, but I don't know about living in New Haven. I guess we still have to wait until next Friday to even make a decision! :)

Hi everyone! I started a Facebook group for admitted students so that we can take the discussion there. Search UPenn ABSN 2018-2019 Cohort. It's a searchable but private group. As my handle suggests, I already live in Philly and will be accepting my spot at Penn. I'm thrilled! I can't wait to meet many of you at admitted students day or when we start in a few months!

Is it possible to post the link? I'm trying to search it and cannot find it? Facebook is so weird with private groups

Log into Facebook | Facebook is the link, but not sure that will work. It should be searchable and then ask to join. If anyone has found it by searching can you share what you searched? The exact name is UPenn ABSN 2018-2019 Cohort (to distinguish it from last year's 2017-2018 group).

I tried to post the link but it gets tagged as spam on this site. The exact name is UPenn ABSN 2018-2019 Cohort (to distinguish it from last year's 2017-2018 group). If anyone has found by searching, please share what you searched.

I copy/pasted the title into the search bar on FB. If the groups doesn't appear in the "All" tab, then click the "Groups" tab on your search page and it should be the first and only thing listed.

My application just says "ready for review." No decision, no email. I have called and emailed at least 50 times - I've been calling for over two months now and no one has returned a single phone call. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

I would say the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Keep after them, there has to be some reason why there isn't a decision or anything on your application. Try asking for Filomena when you call. Did you have an interview?

I did interview, weeks late because no one answers any of my calls or emails. I can't tell you how many voicemails and emails I have sent to admissions and Filomena that have never received a reply. I have called in tears because of how frustrated I feel, like my application has just been ignored.

Congrats on deciding to accept & Thanks for making the group! See you later this month!

I'm so sorry you've been having such a hard time getting information from them about the status of your application. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be, especially because you've been so persistent. I think the best you can do is to just keep trying to reach them, as you have been. What speciality were you applying for? Is it possible they haven't posted all decisions?
