Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

So the new schedule will take less than a year to finish if you only have nursing classes to take. Well that's not bad at all!!

Deltaroxxy2-

What can you tell me about 405? The fact that it's research seems pretty brutal, :(. did you say you've taken 330 and 335? Can you give me anything on those either?

Besides those 3 I only have 455 left!!

Thanks in advance!

Research isn't brutal...It's just BORING if that's that your area of interest. Have about 4-5 assignments and 4 discussion post. But the BIG thing in this class is you have a quiz EVERY week, so be familiar w/the reading. We did get a review sheet though, so that helped.

In Family, you have discussions, case studies, mid term and final quiz. Not bad. You have to collaborate a lot in a group regarding the case study, then submit your final thoughts.

In Legal, you have discussions as a group and 2 quizzes. Another interesting class. The only drawback is if you are in a terrible group since your grade is based upon group participation.

Yes...thanks Delta...what do you think of taking 414 and 335 together? I have no choice in the matter to get through the schedule. Just wanted your thoughts!

Has anybody ever been able to get an itemized bill for their employer??? I can't seem to find the right place and the school won't send you anything!.

I emailed the bursar's office and they sent me an itemized bill. I just explained that my employer needed something stating each class and the fee per credit hour, total cost of the class, and any additional fee's associated with the quarter. I had it within 2 days of emailing them.

Both are great classes. Diversity (414) has been my best/fav nursing class. I think the combo will be fine. Here is what I do for my 2 classes. I focus on 1 the first part of the week, then the other the second part of the week. That way I give both classes individualized attention.

I would like to take a poll of current students.

1. How many classes do you take per 5 weeks?

2. How many hours do you spend on the NURSING classes?

3. How many hours do you spend working while taking classes?

Thanks in advance.

1. how many classes do you take per 5 weeks?

one - any more than that would either make my brain hurt or trigger a severe attack of adhd.

2. how many hours do you spend on the nursing classes?

it varies, but as little as possible and much more than i initially thought necessary.

3. how many hours do you spend working while taking classes?

as little as possible. work takes away from my rather scarce free time, which is spent on several important activities: 1) nursing classes (every attempt is made to minimize the amount of time spent on this); 2) motorcycling (every attempt is made to maximize this but it actually varies in inverse proportion to the number of days less than 50 degrees farenheit); 3) bicycling (see 2 above) or 4) zymurgy (varies enormously and requires a lot of pre-planing). never less than 40 hours though and most often at least 50, usually more - not counting volunteer time as a firefighter/emt

thanks in advance.

hope this helps!

. . . Diversity (414) has been my best/fav nursing class. . .

That's impressive. For me, Diversity was roughly similar to having an impacted wisdom tooth removed.

LOL...I lived in Asia for a number of years and traveled extensively, so diversity/appreciating diversity is extremely important to me. So I knew I'd enjoy this class. Highest grade to date...LOL

Plus I work for a hospital where our pt population is so diverse that translators, foreign documents, cultural diversity awareness is commonplace...

I am very frustrated. I read from page one to page forty something when I was interested in applying to Ohio University. After seeing how long it took chuckster to get in after applying, I sat back and waited patiently, knowing it would be quite a while. For chuckster, it was 4 months, I think? So I have not posted in a while. I applied on July 9th. Here it is almost five months later, and nothing. I was hoping to start in the spring, which I thought was a reasonable amount of time, but I see that hope slowly slipping away. I am trying to hold on because all of you seem satisfied with the program after getting in, and the price is great, but I'm losing hope fast. Who should I contact regarding this? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
