Fulltime job and 2 NRSE classes

Nursing Students Ohio University

I'm going to start the RN-BSN program this fall and I have to maintain a full time schedule in order to keep my scholarship. Here is my schedule I plan I doing:

Fall 1- NRSE 4510

Fall 2- NRSE 4520, NRSE 4570

Fall 3- NRSE 4560

Spring 1- NRSE 4540, NRSE 4550

Spring 2- NRSE 4580

Spring 3- NRSE 4530

Summer 1- NRSE 4600

With this schedule, I'm concerned if I would be able to handle taking those 2 classes during Fall 2 and Spring 1 and having a full time job. I don't have a job yet, but hopefully I will get one by this fall. I already took all my prerequisites, so I just need these nursing classes. A little background about myself: My writing ability is very poor even though I got an A in my junior composition course 308J (which used MLA format instead of APA style ). It takes me about 2 hours to write one page. So how much writing do these courses require? I'm trying to get an idea on how many papers are required each week, how long, and if there are any large writing assignments (10+ pages). Also does anybody have any concern about taking those 2 courses together during Fall 2 and Spring 1. So basically is this doable? Thanks. Here's a cheat sheet if you don't know what the courses are:

Nursing Course Titles

NRSE 4510 - Professional Nursing Practice (4 cr.)

NRSE 4520 - Health Assessment and Promotion (4 cr.)

NRSE 4530 - Family Nursing (3 cr.)

NRSE 4540 - Community Health Nursing (4 cr.)

NRSE 4550 - Evidence Based Nursing (4 cr.)

NRSE 4560 - Gerontologic Nursing Care (3 cr.)

NRSE 4570 - Diversity (3 cr.)

NRSE 4580 - Leadership in Nursing (4 cr.)

NRSE 4600 - Nursing Excellence (3 cr.)

I would not recommend doubling up courses if you were not working let alone working full time. These courses are basically read 5 chapters in the text book, 3 journal articles, and write a 5 page paper plus discussion board posts that equal another almost 2 page paper per week.

These courses are all very heavy on the writing. I am a fast writer and would never take two classes while working full time. You will go crazy!

Thanks for your responses. I took 308J during the summer for 5 weeks and I really struggled with that course. I can't imagine taking 2 writing courses in a 5 week period. My plan was to take one course at a time and work full time, but then I got accepted for this scholarship. I hate to throw it away. Not working is not an option since I have a family to support. I went ahead and registered for my fall courses based on the schedule above. NRSE 4520 was getting full (440 students) so I didn't want to wait. Looks like I have to October 3rd to drop one of those 2nd session courses to get a full refund, except I will probably have to pay back the scholarship ($1500 for that semester). Decisions, decisions. Ugh.

Ditto! I never took 2 nursing courses together and I write fairly quickly. I did take general ed. courses with a nursing class and that was doable for me (I'm also working full time nights). Currently in 4550 and Cultural Anth., which are my last two classes.

I would not recommend taking 2 nursing courses together. I work full time and have only taken one nursing class at a time. I am currently taking a nursing class and two general ed classes. BUT, one professor opened the course up almost a month early so I was able to write most of my papers and will just have to submit them when they are due. I am taking these gen ed classes at a local community college and was so thankful the prof did this.

Wow, these courses sound scary. I got straight A's in my nursing classes but I have no problem memorizing concepts and terms. My biggest weakness is my writing. I barely got two C's in my freshman English courses. Looks like I will be taking only one course per 5 week term. I just hope I can find a RN job that has tuition reimbursement. Thanks again.

Anyone have any advice on the first week's APA assignment for NRSE 4510. I have read and read my APA manual and am having such a hard time finding any grammatical mistakes on some of the sentences! Any advice would be great! Thanks

The mistakes are more than just grammatical. . .

I just took HSP 2210 (heavy writing) and NRSE 4540 together. It was really tough as I work 64 hours a week. If I had not gotten a few Low Census Days I'm not sure If I would be walking out with B's. I have a difficult time writing as well because I never know what to say. Anyway, if you keep your schedule, good luck. I would keep it up if you can until you get a job, hopefully you will by the time your read this.
