4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Nursing Students Ohio University

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

Is it just me or is the Internal validity assignment for this week look like material from last week? I'm not complaining b/c at least I think I understand that stuff much better than the stuff I'm reading this week.

Yes, it is material covered from week three. Each scenario presented fits into one of the categories. Easy to figure out....just busy work again, since they want a complete paragraph for each answer!

Yes, thanks. That's when I'm taking it. I'm on the slow boat to China. I don't take any classes if I have a vacation planned -- been there, done that, never again. Going to Hawaii for two weeks the beginning of October -- much needed!

A complete paragraph??? Are you kidding me?

Finished the Internal validity assignment this morning. I had 5 sentences for each paragraph. It is not that bad really.

BTW: I lived in Hawaii for 15 years...so I understand the need for a vacation. Aloha!

I just finished the internal validity assignment. I agree it wasn't bad. I too had 5 sentences for each paragraph. I don't know how you could get two paragraphs out of each of those.

So far I don't think the reading is as bad as it has been, though having stats last quarter is definitely helping with that.

Sure is a lot of busy work this week. My goal is to get everything done by Wednesday, though I'm sure I will have to kick procrastinations butt to meet my goal. These five week classes do go fast, for that I am thankful!

So, the question is.... For those of your that completed the Internal Validity assignment, where does it say that a paragraph or two is required for answering the questions? I do not see a grading rubric anywhere and have not heard anything from the TA about the requirements of the assignment. Any help or a copy of the rubric would be much appreciated.

From my TAInternal Validity Assignment- For the information given, identify the threat to internal validity from the list: Maturation, History, Mortality, Selection Bias, & Instrumentation. Give a short answer explaining why this is the correct answer.

Question........... for the DB on Levels of measurement....... Do you think we are supposed to use the definitions from the book and use examples related to research?

If you open the assignment itself the directions are there. BTW: You can save your work...just be careful NOT to hit SAVE and Submit button..just the SAVE button only. You can go back to it later. I looked at it several different times, saved my work, and submitted later when I was ready.

Yes, you have to open the actual assignment to get the directions. The directions state "for each of the following situations, identify the type of threat to internal validity from the following list. Then, in your own words, explain the reason this is a problem, and suggest how this problem can be corrected. Your responses should consist of one to two paragrahps.

The list of possible choices include history, instrumentation, maturation, morality, selection bias, and testing.

This assignment is supposed to be done using the lockdown browser. I tried it using that browser and it would not work right (go figure), so I typed my responses in Word, then copied and pasted my answers in the assignment question boxes.

My instructions state to write a paragraph per level of measurement (4 paragraphs) stating what you as a nurse in practice, or what you believe a nurse in practice would do to apply the following levels of research.

My plan is to bascially explain what each level of measurement means and give examples of how a nurse would apply those levels in research.

I can't believe it but I finished both DB posts today! They really aren't too bad (assuming I did them correctly, lol). I just decided to blast through and get it done. Whew! For the measurement DB I explained what each was (from the text) then gave examples from my workplace or another nursing area. Not too hard once you figure out what the measurements are!
