Why???

Why cant I find a job? Im a new nurse no experience except for my clinicals...I have only had two interviews out of god knows how many apps and those were job fair interviews. I have no problem interviewing and Ive even paid for my resume' to "get noticed"! Which the only thing that is noticed is the fact that they have 1 position to fill, a hundred applicants(with more exp.) and then me the needle in the haystack. Its so hard I wondering why I even went into debt for a career that wont pay off. I feel like giving up every rejection or overlook. How am I suppose to get experience if no one wants to give me the chance to show Im worth it. Its kinda surreal that they would hire someone who has experience but clearly either quit, is about to quit, or even got fired. That makes no sense to me you'd rather hire some one that is not loyal and untrustworthy when to comes to employment. I work now and believe me I am thankful for having a job when there are so many w/o...but the pay sucks and the job is unfulfilling and unsatisfying. Can anyone offer prospects, advice or just some good ole' fashion encouragement because Im at the end of the rope. Thanks!:o

@ShantheRN it really is not fair! What makes it even crazier is the are in the paper or on the 'net sayin "needed IMMEDIATELY" What does immediately mean these days? I Thought it meant right now guess it has a new meaning Im not aware of...its like if you would've given me a chance the position would have been filled!

Even though I am still in school I understand what you are going through. Before I started back at college I went through the same exact merry go round of job interviews and putting in literally 100s of resumes. You just have to keep hanging in there even though things are really tough.

I have a question...it seems like there are a lot of you on the board you have had telephone interviews...is that the norm now?

I just got my license 2 weeks ago and started applying everywhere I can. No one wants to hire brand new nurse. CC wants "current" CCHS employees only, UH rejected me with "usual" responce and VA preffer BSN. Where to go? I decided to start applying to long-term facilities although I don't really want to. Our family friend asked someone she knew at Metro to help me get into and was told thatMetro freezes hiring process for now.

@eclipse2975 I feel you really I do...im 3months in and still nothing...before, during, and even after I heard all the stories of the vast opportunities there are in nursing and for nurses...now out here in the "real world" nothing! Even though I dont want to be rejected even those emails are far and in between. I really would appreciate someone doing the hiring to just take a second and tell me what it is thats wrong with me, my cover letter, appllication or resume'. Ive applied everywhere someplaces twice and not on purpose but still the results are the same...I hear stories on here of how it took some people 6,9, and even a year before they got hired. Im still hopeful that it wont take me that long but its looking that way and its frustating esp since my loans are due:crying2:! I wish u luck good good luck on your job search!:D

I do some hiring for the doctor's office I work for, things that turn them off with resumes are words spelled incorrectly, no work experience, and some experience in the medical field. Unfortunately, we hired some new staff, LPNs and MAs, that were fresh out of school, and had alot of problems. On your resumes, if you went to school for something and did not work in that setting, IE-a medical secretary, or MA, or if there is a large gap in your employment history, that is a big turn off. With the economy the way it is, there are alot of hospitals cutting back. I am more than happy to look at resumes and give a different perspective, all I can say is keep trying. When we post jobs, we get 50+ resumes, unfortunately, we cannot get back to everyone, it is not possible, so dont be so hard on a prospective employer if they don't respond, just keep trying, after you send a resume, follow up 4-5 days later with a call 'hey this is------- I just wanted to make sure you recieved my resume. Are you interviewing now' that lets the employer know that you are really interested.

Try hillcrest. They hire new grads (I was one of six they hired in 2008) and I consider that a job I would go back to in a heartbeat if we still lived in the area.

@amandap213 thank you, i have the MA training on my resume but never worked in the field so thats helpful to know...i always kept it on there as a part of my healthcare experience, but no i will be removing it!

@mommyX2 Hillcrest is part of the CCFH system and they're basically accepting internal employees(since Huron is closing soon:crying2: and Ive applied i dnt kno how many times) and also I dnt think they wanna hire people from the school I went to b/c of a student error from a group that was doing clinicals there after that they cancelled their contract with the school and told them they were never again work with them...sad how 1 person ruined it for the whole school and future nursing students from there and CCF's reach is so far...after that the class after mine had to do their maternity rotation in the school lab:uhoh3:...but thanx for the push in a good direction:redpinkhe!
