Why cant I find a job? Im a new nurse no experience except for my clinicals...I have only had two interviews out of god knows how many apps and those were job fair interviews. I have no problem interviewing and Ive even paid for my resume' to "get noticed"! Which the only thing that is noticed is the fact that they have 1 position to fill, a hundred applicants(with more exp.) and then me the needle in the haystack. Its so hard I wondering why I even went into debt for a career that wont pay off. I feel like giving up every rejection or overlook. How am I suppose to get experience if no one wants to give me the chance to show Im worth it. Its kinda surreal that they would hire someone who has experience but clearly either quit, is about to quit, or even got fired. That makes no sense to me you'd rather hire some one that is not loyal and untrustworthy when to comes to employment. I work now and believe me I am thankful for having a job when there are so many w/o...but the pay sucks and the job is unfulfilling and unsatisfying. Can anyone offer prospects, advice or just some good ole' fashion encouragement because Im at the end of the rope. Thanks!:o

It's easy to feel so discouraged at this point, trust me, I had the same feelings. I took my test in Oct 2010 (about 2 months after graduation and hitting the NCLEX study materials really hard) and put out easily over 150 apps between then and December. I had a few phone interviews here and there...but no bites. Finally, in the end of December I got a few more bites and finally offered a position. I took the position and by some miracle in April, I was contacted out of the blue (no renewal of applications) for several interviews.

It's worth it in the end, just like nursing school...finding a job is VERY difficult. If you have the opportunity to network with other nurses, DO IT....that may be your way in! Sometimes it's not your grades or your background, it's who you know.

Best wishes on your endeavors and best of luck on landing a position in the near future! Keep your head up!

Thanx amandap213, I have email notifications coming in from cleveland clinic and UH and here's the reply I always recieve back "We have reviewed your resume and qualifications for this specific position / job number. While your skills and experience are impressive, we are pursuing applicants whose credentials more closely fit the requirements for this particular opportunity" No matter what I apply for its always the same thing. Im beyond frustrated and at my wits end on this career search.

If you would be willing, can you send me your resume, I can review and maybe give some suggestions and help. [email protected].

I think a big issue in the Cleveland area right now is that Huron Hospital is closing. A lot of the jobs posted on the Clinic's website are now internal applicant's only, since so many nurses are losing their jobs. Have you tried looking a little more south? Akron has a lot of jobs posted at all of their hospitals (Akron city, Akron general, and Akron children's).

@WSU Ally RN yes I have and I get the same response its not that we wouldn't hire you but the lack of exp. makes it a big risk that we just dont wanna take at this point in time is basically what I hear when they reject my application. Its not like I never had any type of exp I mean I started clinicals the second week of school in a year long program. I have exp not just alot. My major complaint is that all those DON's Nursing Recruiters and HR Managers act like no one ever took a chance on them...like they started off with 100's of years of exp, but when it comes to giving the next person the same shot its nonexistent

I feel your pain, CJ! I've gotten so much rejection I'm starting to lose confidence. Employers don't count clinical as experience, unfortunately. I even work at a hospital as a PCA and I'm still not getting anything. At this point I can relocate anywhere in Ohio (can't afford to pay for endorsement to other states without a definite job!) but so far every city I've checked is more of the same.

It truly sucks.
