I am so glad I found this thread... I have a BA in Communication but recently have decided I want to go to school for nursing. I am looking for 2 year programs so that I can get out, start work, and maybe complete a BSN later if I want to.

I am living on my own with rent and bills so I'm wondering - how do you do it?!?! I considered an accelerated BSN program at NKU, but I'm thinking there is NO way I'd be able to make any money to pay bills. I'm looking at Good Sam and Christ, but I'm nowhere close to applying for either because I honestly have NO clue about the process, what school will be like, if I'll be able to work, etc. ANY info would be appreciated!!

Im sure that you'd be able to work part time if you'd like but Im not going to look for a job until classes start and I know what the load will be like.

Im in your position as well. I'll have a BS in health studies this summer but there is no way I could see myself doing an accelerated program. And I really dont think it makes much sense to have two bachelors degrees anyway, especially if youre only going to be using one. My plan is to do the program at Christ and do the RN-MSN bridge program.

You dont need to have pre reqs already done to get accepted to Christ. The pre req classes are set into their schedule but if you do it that way then you'll be taking maybe 16 credits a semester. I already had all the pre reqs completed but there is still a mandatory 13 credits that you take there in order to be able to graduate. I visited and I liked the fact that the school was so small, it makes me feel like I'll get the one on one attention I need.

I think you should schedule a tour or go to one of their info sessions.

I contacted Christ and Good Sam, both aren't accepting anyone to new to the program until August of 2011

So now I'm going to find out what the list is like at Galen. Anyone know/heard anything about them? Is that long of a waiting list typical?

The reason Christ isnt accepting anyone until August 2011, is not because they have a waiting list but because they only accept students once per year. The application deadline was in December. They accept the students who they think are most qualified first and then they send waitlist letters to the students who didnt get accepted but were good enough to be in the program. If a student who was accepted denies their admission then they contact someone off the waitlist to take the spot. Either you get accepted, denied, or are an alternate on the waitlist. So for instance, if I applied and had a 3.5 gpa and you applied and had a 3.0 gpa I would probably get accepted over you. But your gpa is still very good so they might send you a letter saying that youll be waitlisted. If I decide I dont want to attend their program anymore they'll contact you and ask if you want the spot since they have an opening. If you were to get a rejection letter then it would be just that, a rejection. Get it?

Thats how the waitlist goes. I think you have their waitlist confused with community colleges, that have waitlists that last for years. If you want to try and get in for next fall then submit your application, transcripts, and essay later on this year for the deadline.

Hope that cleared it up for you...

I am going to Christ this fall 2010 and I have heard about the failure rate from last year. I am really trying to get the name of the teacher that failed all those students. Is there any way that someone form Christ could contact me personally and let me know. I am willing to study hard but I am a single mom and I cannot afford to repay student loans because a certain teacher fails 1/3 of the class. Thanks

Thanks, I got it. That is good to know. I can't PM you because I do not have 15 posts yet. I live about 1/2 hour from the school but my kids are teenagers so I do not use childcare. Where are you coming from?

I live in MI about five and a half hours away. You'll have it easier since your kids are older, mine are only 4 and 1!

I saw a few people with kids at records day though, so maybe they could be able to help me if I ask a few questions at orientation. I cant believe its actually 4 days long!

Did you guys register for classes that were all in the same section? For example did you register for all of A block or did you mix it up?

    Hello,

I just graduated from Christ and for the most part have all great things to say, except no jobs at christ. Hopefully u guys will find a different economy when u graduate. If you have any questions PM me I would be happy to answer your questions. I love the small college and you do get individual attention. Remember that first month is intimidating. I have a bachelor's degree and this ADN was much harder. Work hard the rewards will pay off.

Christ isn't on a hiring freeze with the economy-that is an excuse-they got hit with a 55 MILLION lawsuit judgement due to a federal law violation brought by a doctor who retired then sued. They were stacking the OR time in favor of physician groups who referred more patients to Christ. Those docs that allowed their patients to choose were slighted OR time-they didn;t paly the game-and it cost Christ hospital big time.

An FYI-it helps to follow the news in the area to see who is being sued for what-I would love an employer who filters themselves as much as they try to filter employees, and really don't tolerate the double standards well at all!!

    Hey Healthlink

I have a question for you. Is pharmacology learned in the first semester? I called the book store and got the names of the books we'll be using first semester and Clinical Drug Therapy by Abrams was one of the required books. I know that we have a dosage calculation class the second semester, so will we be learning the individual drugs and their classes in the first semester (maybe in Foundations class)?

Oh, and I have a BS as well but I have no doubt that this ADN will be WAY harder!

Another question, is there an exit exam that must be passed in order to graduate?
