Sinclair Nursing Students/Majors

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hi All!

I would like to know how many of you here are nursing students or nursing majors at Sinclair Community College.

I have recently taken the PAX-RN, and am finally on the waiting list at Sinclair.

Would also like to know if any of you are taking A&P this quarter, and if you are would you like to form a study group?

Looking forward to your replies! :-)

Lisa

Kettering, OH:)

Hi Lisa how are u doing? I was at sinlclair taking some courses but I withdrew because their waiting list is too long. So now I'm trying to get into kettering college of medical arts. Do you know if sinclair's waiting list is really 2 years long?

Hi lashon,

What I know about the waiting list is this:

If you "pass" the PAX-RN the waiting time to enter the nursing program is, and I quote, "up to 6 quarters." I had heard they are implementing a waiting list at Kettering College of Medical Arts, you may want to check it out...it may be as long and you may save A LOT of money by going to Sinclair.

The six quarter waiting list is no big deal if you use the time to get the basic "non-nursing" classes out of the way. I don't have enough classes left to fill six quarters myself, so I may have some time off before I start the actual program. It has afforded me the opportunity to go part time this quarter and just take the A&P class, which alone is a bunch of studying and work.

As for the PAX-RN, it was tougher than I thought it would be. Make sure you brush up on biology, pysiology, anatomy, learn some basic physics, know your chemistry and math. Also it is helpful to practice reading comprehension. The study books available for the test are helpful, the copy of previous PAX-RN tests from the Sinclair LRC give you a very basic idea of what subjects will be covered, but the real exam has WAY more questions.

I wish you the best on your nursing quest!

Lisa:)

Hey there, Lisa! I'm a Tartan too!! :D

I took the PAX-RN last month too & am currently WAITING as well. Isn't it fun? LOL At least it gives us time to finish our non-nursing classes. I don't have too many left either, but I figure I'll work on some that will transfer to the RN-BSN completion program (thru Capital U) that I'm hoping to take after I get through here.

I didn't think the PAX was too hard...except for the science part. Those physics questions had me flustered. But I did really well, so I'm pleased. Too bad we're not admitted to the program on merit. I'd probably be starting a lot sooner then!

This quarter I'm taking A&P II. Which are you taking & who's your instructor? I've got Sosebee. He's tough from what I hear, but I like him ok. Of course, we haven't been tested yet, so I may change my mind! LOL! ;)

Also taking NA Training this fall. So far so good there too. :)

Thanks for the info Lisa, I'm really considering going back to sinclair. I think I made a huge mistake by withdrawing from my classes. I had dev 108, dev 110, and psychology 122, after that I was supposed to register for bio 107/108 and chemistry and pull my g.p.a up to a 2.0 and I would've been eligible to take the pax-rn. But I have a lot of other classes to take also, so bought time I'm done taking all those classes the 2 year wait will probably be up. But I can always apply for winter quarter and retake those classes. I can't seem to find any better and cheaper school than sinclair. I'm just wondering will those f's be erased off of my transcipt after I retake the rest of those classes. That's what thing I'm worrying about those f's don't make my transcipt look good at all. That's one thing my psychology teacher was telling our class was that if you drop out of the classes make sure you withdraw cause those f's are hard to get off.

AmyLiz,

Go Tartans! LOL :D My scores on the PAX were fabulous, above average...I still thought it was difficult. The reading comprehension was very easy for me, but I know people who struggled with that section. The math section was not all that hard, I'm just slower than average, but still did above average on that section. I agree, the science section was the most difficult, especially with the Physics thrown in. It may have been easier, but I am only in A&P I this quarter (Klopfenstien - he seems to be a great instructor- but we haven't had a test yet, either!). I have had the chemistry (of course) so that was a piece o'cake. I did above average on the science section as well.

I had heard through the grapevine that only 38 people out of that whole huge lecture hall of people who took the test (what, maybe 200?) successfully completed the PAX-RN on this go-round. That was kinda kewl to hear...not so for those who did not do as well. I guess there were some who thought it even more difficult than I did.

Have not done the NA stuff yet, maybe next quarter. I just wanted to concentrate on this one class this quarter. It's important stuff, and I felt it required my undivided attention. I will probably be back at full time status next quarter, though. I am trying to space things out so I don't feel like 6 quarters is such a long time to wait!

Glad to hear you are doing well. Keep up the good work! I'm sure our paths will cross at some point at Sinclair. I look forward to meeting you sometime. TTYL

Dear lashon,

I think you should speak with an allied health counselor to find out what your options may be. You never know until you ask! I would encourage you to get back in the saddle and move forward on what you desire to do, no holds barred. You know, Sinclair offers free tutoring - that may be something to look into if you are finding some classes to be challenging.

Never give up! Come on back to Sinclair, I am sure you won't regret it.

Lisa :)

Thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to come back and register for winter quarter and talk to a counselor.:)

Lisa...

Yeah, my scores were way above average on the exam too. I didn't hear about the pass/fail rate though. That is cool! I knew 2 other people who took it...one passed, the other one failed the verbal section (but then, english is her second language. She just has to take medical terminology & she'll be on the waiting list). I thought the verbal part was really easy & the math wasn't bad either. I finished the section - barely. I'm slow too when I can't use a calculator! ;)

I can understand on wanting to concentrate on A&P. It's a tough course & takes a lot of work. I've not heard how Klopfenstien is, hopefully he's a good instructor. Rodderick is good & so is Ryan (-for future reference).

I'm not planning on going to school full-time. I don't have that many courses to go, so I figure I can space them out & only take 2 courses per quarter. That way I can concentrate better on those classes. Then once nursing classes start...I can continue to just take 2 classes at a time. 6 quarters seems like a long time, but I'm betting it will go by fast. Plus, from what a nursing instructor told me, it's more like 4-6 quarters. They tell us 6 so that we're not bugging them after a year goes by. ;)

Lashon...

The F's will most likely still be on your transcripts, but don't worry about that too much. If you go back, pull up your gpa & try to keep it up. The F's won't matter as much then...they'll see that you dropped out & started over. As long as you start over & apply yourself...that will show them that you're serious about it. Don't sweat those F's too much.

I don't think you'll find a school as good & as inexpensive as Sinclair. The only other school in town (other than WSU & Kettering), from what I'm told is Retts tech. I heard from someone they have a program (dunno if it's LPN or RN though...nor do I know if it's an accredited program or not). But even then, I think Sinclair would be less costly.

Good luck! :)

Oh...and Lashon....

If I were you, I would go talk to an Allied Health counsellor sometime in October. That way they'll be able to help you plan a course of action in how to proceed.

Thanks for the advice Amyliz.:)

Hi! Lashon20....I'm nto sure, but I failed a course and I retook it the next semester and itcompletely erased my F so maybe there is still a chance!!!!
