need recommendations for neighborhoods located within columbus

i may be relocating to columbus, and i've see wonderful old houses within the city during my online search for housing. i've always wanted to restore an old house to its former glory, but i have concerns about overall conditions in the neighborhoods (crime, noise, litter, etc.)

if you live in the city, or have lived in the city, can you recommend a good area to purchase an old home for renovation?

if you think living in the city is a bad idea, let me hear from you also! :uhoh3:

all input is greatly appreciated!

thank you! :)

I like living in this area but the housing in the burbs can be very costly. Columbus is surrounded by suburbs. The North part of the outterbelt (270) is very fast growing.

Are you looking for certain things in a neighborhood?

Affordability is number one! Is under $150k unreasonable for the Columbus area? :uhoh3:

For a city neighborhood, I like diversity, restaurants, parks, and a friendly, community atmosphere.

This may sound odd, but I don't really like the suburbs, but I do like rural areas. So, if it's not feasible to live IN the city, any input about costs of homes in rural areas way OUTSIDE of the city? I don't mind a commute.

Thanks! :)

How many bedrooms do you need? Depends alot on the area. I live in the NE part of the metro area. We bought a nice sized house (5 kids) and it was over 200,000 almost 8 years ago. Columbus has some awesome parks. Peaceful and with bike, roller blade, and running trails. Hiking trails. I think there are 4 old fashioned theaters downtown for broadway slows and plays. Many movie houses, several malls and some stores from NYC. Three big players for hospitals. The Mt. Carmel System -3 hospitals, Ohio Health with 3 and OSU/James. Commutes can be bad bad bad. When I first moved her I worked in a suburb 20 miles from here and it took me 1.5 hours to get there and home. Stop and go the entire way. Commutes add alot to your day. Some of the cities near Columbus area smaller very nice and the housing is cheaper.

Taxes here, property, have doubled in 8 years.

Do you have family here?

Dublin, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus) was a nice area when I lived there in the late eighties and early nineties as a traveling nurse. That's all I know, and have no idea if Dublin has changed since that time. :)

Hey how are you? Dublin is very nice. It is one of the higher priced cities along the outter. You probably would not even recognize it due to urban sprawl.
