Hondoros college-cincinnati

U.S.A. Ohio

Ok i recently decided after much thought to get into the field of nursing. I had a background and got an associates degree in computer networking and found that there was not really anything out there worth having in that field with what i had. So i decided to pursue nursing. I know a lot about nursing having friend and everything in the field. However, Hondoros college is kind of the new kid on the block here in Cincinnati and i was wondering how everyone experiences were with them getting set up with financial aid and once you got started how was it? Any feedback would be appreciated along with any advice?

Andrew

I went and I take m test tomorrow. I've been studying everyday. LOL It is driving my husband nuts. It seems he misses all of my talking. I already did my FAFSA online and if I pass I just have to do the rest.

So I got in with an 88.4% average on my hesi! Yey!! Now all of the paperwork and I will be there April 5th:lol2:

Congratulations tallandrew1982 and miranda02!!!

Congratulations to both of you! Animal, would you recommend moving up Microbiology to first term RN, or is that too much with Anatomy? Is it a better idea to just take classes like Sociology and Public Speaking first term? I'm not sure yet what will transfer and I might have (hopefully) Sociology, Public Speaking, and English covered. I'm assuming you are allowed to move up Microbiology because it isn't technically a nursing class, right? Thank you so much....by the way, which term are you in??

Hi mitchsa!

I am first term RN. Unfortunately, you cannot move Micro to your first term, because A&P I is a prerequisite for that class. Also, I'm not sure if they are going to change it back, but Public Speaking (I think they changed the name, but I don't know what it is.) was changed to an actual on-site class, instead of online. So, for our term at least, no one was able to take that class because its start time conflicted with our A&P class by 20 min. I am taking English Comp. this term, so I can get it out of the way. I was originally going to take Sociology as well, but I would have had to come up with a pretty big chunk of change (my FA wouldn't cover it all for this term), so I decided to leave it for fourth term.

As for the possibility of transferring some of your classes in, there was a notice on the homepage of CAMS that you might want to check out. I could be wrong, but it gave me the impression that Hondros was no longer going to accept previous credits for the gen-ed classes. (Hopefully I'm wrong--I didn't have any classes to transfer in, so it doesn't affect me, but that's a bunch of crap if I'm right!)

You're fourth term LPN, right? Good luck with HESI! It's a beast!!! :grn:

Just kidding. You'll be fine!

Hello Animal! Finishing up these last few weeks of 3rd term LPN actually. How is first term? Brutal?? Thanks for getting back to me about Micro. That's fine with me otherwise I'd be on science overload! I checked further into the transferring in Gen Ed classes in the 2010 catalog and it seems like they are still accepting them. I have never heard of CLEP testing before though, so I could be misguided. Thanks for all your help, good luck with finals. If you have any tips on how I should study for HESI next term, I would gladly accept them!

Hello again!

First term isn't really too bad. The only class you are required to take is A&P I, because you have already taken all of the gen eds for that term (they're the ones you took in the LPN program). So, that is why I recommend getting your RN gen eds out of the way during the first term!

As for HESI........get used to doing questions on the CD in the back of your NCLEX book. You are going to have certain ones to turn in for homework each week for your Concepts class, and they will help you a lot when it comes time to take HESI. Other than that, make sure you know your lab values frontwards and backwards--A LOT of your HESI questions will be based on your knowledge of what is "normal". Also, as with all of your course tests, remember your ABC's. Many questions are worded in ways to try to trick you into choosing something else, but they will never stray from the ABC's. (Especially when it comes to the airway!!!) If you keep all of this in mind, you shouldn't have too much trouble (it's more stressful than it is difficult). You are required to get an 850, in order to graduate, and I got a 1042.

Good luck to you as well! Can you believe this term is almost over?

Animal...this term flew by! We all keep talking about how the RN program only has 32 spots available. I think we have talked about this before, but since you are in the program now, I've got to ask! How competitive was it for your class? Were all 32 spots filled, with some people left in the dust? Also, when did you find out you were accepted into the RN program? Is this something we find out after we take the HESI?

Typically, you will find out after HESI. Unfortunately, you will probably find that it will cause a lot of drama among your classmates--I have heard from multiple sources that it was said that I "only decided to move on after I saw my HESI score", because there was someone's friend who was potentially going to have to wait to move on. (So, I suppose they saw it as me taking their friend's spot, even though my score--and GPA--was one of the highest in my class!)

Basically, they will take your HESI score into consideration, first, and then your GPA. However, they will also save spots for anyone who had a high GPA, but may have failed HESI the first time around, to see if they are going to pass it the second time. Ultimately, it will really just depend on how many people, who are eligible, are wanting to move on. After it was all said and done (and all the BS went down!), everyone who had wanted to move on ended up with a spot, due to the fact that some people failed HESI the second time, and their spots became available.

I hope all of that made sense! :)

HI GUYS, i just got accepted at hondros school of nursing at the wester ville campus and would be starting in october, i had a few questions if you guys can plz help me with them. Is the school not NLNAC accredited? (i looked at the board website and it said candidacy 2010-2012) does that mean that it will get accredited by NLNAC by 2012?

Im actually from out of state, from michigan, so if i wanted to come back here to work as an lpn/rn would i have to take the boards again?

I read in the previous posts that your credits would not be able to transfer, but if i graduated by 2012, does that mean if the school got accredited by the time i graduated i could transfer?

My ultimate goal is to get a bsn, would i be able to do that with just a rn license? or would my credits need to transfer to the bsn school as well? and would indiana weselyn be my only option?

Im nervous about starting school at hondros, i hear mixed stories, so can you guys plz tell me about ur experiences there?

how smooth is the transition from lpn to rn?

im sorry for so many questions, i'll be eagerly waiting for your reply guys. THANK YOUUU!!

Here in Ohio, there have been a TON of nursing schools that have literally popped up overnight and it's kinda scary... I know there have been accreditation problems with Miami Jacobs and RETS. Not real sure about Hondros but i would be very careful and do my research. Have you considered Sinclair or Wright State? I know we have a waiting list. (Sinclair) not sure about Wright State but these two schools have been around for a real long time and have flawless records, make great RN's and have no problems with transfering credits.

Thanks emtoh, i have looked into it, which is why i ended up applying, but have u heard about hondros?

if anyone knows about hondros, or can answer my questions posted above, can you please do so, im very excited, yet very nervous. Just want everything to run smoothly.
