Hi Rasengan, I just finished the LPN program at Hondros and will be starting the RN program in a few days. As far as the school goes...so far, so good. No one has takens the boards yet, but a few people already have jobs lined up once they become licensed. I know RN's that have graduated from Hondros and had no trouble getting jobs out of school. You are right about their accreditation. They are currently "candidacy" status through NLNAC, and they have up to two years to do what they need to do to make it official. They are NOT guaranteed the accreditation, but they are headed in the right direction! I had my doubts about Hondros, but overall I have been very pleased with the program. I do not remember exactly which schools Hondros has BSN agreements with, but I believe they are 4 or so. If (and when!) they get their NLNAC accreditation, credits should transfer to most schools in the area...that is how I understand it anyways. I know someone who graduated from Galen, a school that does NOT have their NLNAC accreditation, and he works ER at one of the top hospitals in the area and is currently getting his BSN through UC...so maybe there are ways around it? I'll let you know how the transition from LPN to RN goes. We have orientation in the morning, and the workload for the first term seems light. Best of luck with your decision, hope I was able to help! I'm around if you think of any other questions :)

Animal...this term flew by! We all keep talking about how the RN program only has 32 spots available. I think we have talked about this before, but since you are in the program now, I've got to ask! How competitive was it for your class? Were all 32 spots filled, with some people left in the dust? Also, when did you find out you were accepted into the RN program? Is this something we find out after we take the HESI?

Hello Animal! Finishing up these last few weeks of 3rd term LPN actually. How is first term? Brutal?? Thanks for getting back to me about Micro. That's fine with me otherwise I'd be on science overload! I checked further into the transferring in Gen Ed classes in the 2010 catalog and it seems like they are still accepting them. I have never heard of CLEP testing before though, so I could be misguided. Thanks for all your help, good luck with finals. If you have any tips on how I should study for HESI next term, I would gladly accept them!

Congratulations to both of you! Animal, would you recommend moving up Microbiology to first term RN, or is that too much with Anatomy? Is it a better idea to just take classes like Sociology and Public Speaking first term? I'm not sure yet what will transfer and I might have (hopefully) Sociology, Public Speaking, and English covered. I'm assuming you are allowed to move up Microbiology because it isn't technically a nursing class, right? Thank you so much....by the way, which term are you in??

Hi Miranda! Purchasing the study guide for the HESI entrance exam is a great idea. The exam only covers the main topics of the book (none of the science chapters) and I found the book to really coincide with the information on the test. Personally, I don't think a letter of recommendation is necessary. The entrance exam and the background check are the big parts of admission. Best of luck, hope the information session answered some of your questions!

Congratulations on starting this upcoming April, tldc! Your post sounds EXACTLY like something I would have written before I started last July. You sound optimistic, and that will get you through! I have to say, I really like it at Hondros. It is a good way to jumpstart your future career as a nurse. I have friends in other nursing programs that are further along than I am, and I am able to keep up with what they talk about, so I know I'm learning what I need to know through Hondros. I have classmates that can't seem to get past the negative, and I'm sure you will have classmates like that too. The things they bash Hondros for seem very petty to me, but I suppose everyone has their limits. You just have to remember that Hondros is a new school, and it's a give and take situation for all of us. We work hard for a degree, Hondros gets feedback on how to make their program better. The professors are great for the main nursing classes (Fundamentals, Med/Surg, OB/Peds), and the other ones tell you what you need to know. You might have heard first term is the hardest because it can be overwhelming. I went to UC for two years and never put in as much time and effort as I do at Hondros. You just have to come up with your own way of studying. My best advice would be to stay ahead of the game. You can always pick up your books before each term starts, and the syllabi for your classes are usually available on CAMs (you'll learn about this) about a week prior to the start of classes. Hondros provides a great N-CLEX PN book first term, and they recommend you do 25-50 questions a day. The book is especially helpful when you get to second term and need a study tool for Med/Surg, because a lot of the test questions are similar to the questions on the CD that come with the N-CLEX book. I hope this information is helpful! You might or might not know this, but it was the only thing that caught me off gaurd about Hondros. At orientation, they told us that the RN program only has 32 spots available (we started out with 60 first term). I know you want to go on to the RN program, so please do not let this scare you!! Believe me, you might have 60 in the beginning, but your class will get smaller and smaller with each passing term. Plus, some people either don't want to become an RN, or they have to take a break from school to work. There are 43 people in my class now. If I can answer anymore questions for you, let me know! Before I started in July, I had a million questions for Animal. You can go back and read our old posts too, that might be helpful. Congratulations again!

Hi TLDC! I'm in the 3rd term of the LPN program at Hondros right now, and I really like it. I thought maybe an example of what your schedule might look like would help. First term I had lab 12-4 on Mondays for the first five weeks, off Tuesdays for first five weeks, clinicals Mon and Tues weeks 6-10 from 7-12, and lecture classes ranging between the hours of 8 AM and 3 PM Wed-Fri, with hour or so breaks in between class. Second term, Mondays 8-2, Tuesdays lab 12-2, Wednesdays 2-4, and clinical EITHER Thursday or Friday, 7-4. Third term, Mondays 8-5, Tuesdays 8-3, Wednesdays lab 11-1, and off Thursdays and Fridays with the exception of 5 random clinical dates throughout the term. As you can see, the schedule changes each term, but the days off are such a huge help when it comes to studying. Good luck with your decision!

Hey animal, thanks for always responding! Thank you for the advice. For term 1 of RN, does that mean you just take A&P (BIO 250) since PSY 100 and ENG 100 (the other two classes for term 1) have already been taken? Seems to good to be true!

Hi, quick question about the RN program. In the LPN program, you know how students take English 100, Psych 100 and Lifespan (Psych 133)? Once a student gets to the RN program, those classes are both listed again on the "example schedule" that we follow to sign up for classes each term. Is it just a continuation of what we have already learned? Just wondering b/c of term 1 in the RN program (A&P, Psych 100, and Eng 100...two classes we would have already taken coming in from Hondros' LPN program) Thanks!

Hello! Just wanted to thank everyone for getting back to me when I posted this back in June. I've been at Hondros for a month, and I really enjoy it. If anyone comes across this post that is considering Hondros and has a few questions for a new student, let me know! I only have good things to say.

Animal, thank you for posting! When you say Hondros is not NLNAC accredited, does that mean after completing the LPN program, if I wanted to go elsewhere to get my RN, it wouldn't be possible? I'm glad to hear you are happy at Hondros! Are you currently in the LPN program?

New student here at Hondros
Catrat, I just took the time to read over all of the posts on this blog and am wondering how you personally felt about your clinicals? Do you feel you are learning a lot when you go? Any bad experiences? I start in 11 days, so I might as well just wait and see, but if you (or anyone) has any input (good or bad) I'd much rather know now! Thanks for answering everyone's questions, you are putting a lot of people at ease and reassuring us that we are making the right decision.
