Does anyone know of any good nursing schools in Dayton

U.S.A. Ohio

I finished my nursing assistant classes on aug 8th and I will be working for interim healthcare starting tomorrow. I'm still trying to figure out what I school I wanna go to or what school is the best to go for an rn or lpn. I was thinking of going to rets tech center for their lpn program but I don't know if it's good or not. This lady is supposed to be helping me get into wright state for their nursing program, but my sister in law says that sinclair has the best rn program and they have the highest passing rate for the nclex. I would like to go for a bachelors in nursing. Does anyone know which schools are good?

RETS has an LPN and an LPN-RN program. I graduated from the latter in August and had no problems passing the boards. As with any school, much of what you get in return is directly proportional to the amount you are willing to put in. Kettering has gone to a mainly self-directed learning program, and the two schools are comparable in price. Student problems are usually just that, student. You can't always blame the school, though I will admit that RETS has a ways to go. The LPN-RN program is just over a year old.

The information I offered came as a result of conversations with more than ten current students of RETS and 3 instructors. While it may be true that students have a part in the negative outcomes associated with school and learning, in this situation it seems that the school has grown to quickly and offers information that is not true about credit transfer and that the caliber of teaching staff is suspect. The recent loss of instructors and need to revamp clinical sites has caused at least 4 staff members at my institution to fear that they will not be able to complete there education. Carolynn

The nursing program at RETS, in particular, the LPN-RN program is still in it's infancy, so to speak. The pass rate for NCLEX has gotten much better, despite whatever problems there are. There is still a lot of room for improvement in the curriculum, and from what I understand, some drastic changes in the way the material is being taught and tested have been made and the students are not happy about it (this came from an instructor I talked to very recently). As to instructor caliber, the answers you receive are dependent on whom you talk to. You know what they say about opinions, enough said. I do know that RETS credits transfer to KCMA and as far as I know to Indiana Weslyan. These articulation agreements don't happen overnight. I am sure that Sinclair, though it is a great school, had to go through the same approval process that every other school must go through. In my previous post, I mentioned that KCMA has changed from lecture-based learning to a more self-directed learning model. RETS relies on a lecture-based model, but in order to have full comprehension of the material, the student must still allot time for individual reading.

As I mentioned, I believe that Sinclair is a great school. However, ask yourself one question. If you were a student, would you want to be on a waiting list for 3 or more years and then complete the program in another 3 years? Of course, this is due to a lack of qualified nurses willing to teach and take a salary cut! I am sorry, but that is asinine! Why not just go to WSU to their generic BSN program? I know of many, many students who have been discouraged not only by the long wait, but by certain administrative personnel linked to Sinclair's nursing program. I am one of them. I had better things to do with my time than to languish indefinitely on a waiting list. The RETS program suited me, even though it was vastly more expensive and not even accredited at the time I entered. Therefore, I still stand by what I originally said, what you get in return is directly proportional to the amount of what you are willing to put in.

I totally agree with you Antflip!! I am currently in the LPN program at RETS. We have 3 weeks to go until finals. Do I think the program is perfect? No, however, I did not have the time to wait on a list for 3 years. I do plan on going on the the ADN at RETS. I am sure that years ago people said the same thing about Sinclair that they are saying about RETS. The program is still in its infancy and will have more growing pains I am sure. All in all, RETS is really trying to make itself one of the best schools of nursing around.

I am attending Miami-Jacobs in Springboro. It is an accelerated scool, so what you put into it is what you are going to get out of it(meaning you have to study). A guy I work with graduated this year from Rets Tech and he said they spoon fed him alot of the info. to pass the boards, but as for remembering it, not so good. He also said they gave lots of "fluf" points so those that shouldn't have passed did. I've also heard that the % of students that don't pass that NCLEX isn't so good.

If you check out Miami-Jacob, ask for Ken, he seems to be the best acedemic advisor, he is mine and he tells you the truth about the program. I have heard other classmates say "well my ac told me this and my ac told me that" Ken will tell you the truth, and if you tell him McHenryMom sent you to him, he will luv you:lol2:

I am a student at Miami-Jacobs in their PN program. I really like it, however, it is an excellerated program and not for everyone. If you call the Springboro Campus ask for Ken he is the best academic advisor and tell him McHenryMom sent you.:w00t:

I am actually scheduled to start LPN school at RETs April 1st, but I have heard so many bad things about it I have decided that I am not going to start there. I am petitioning for admission to KMC. They are only $6,000 more for your ADN where as you would spend that going to sinclair after you did RETS. And with doing RETS and sinclair (or another college) your going to school 3.5-4 years for a 2.5 year degree, hardly worth it to me!

Just MHO.

Good luck in what ever you choose.

Oh BTW, its an additional 20 something thousand dollars for the LPN-RN program at rets! for a total of like 45,000 dollars.
