Cleveland State University Accelerated BSN Spring 2014

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hello,

I am attending CSU's accelerated BSN program this coming January and was wondering if there is anyone else on here that starts at the same time or if anyone is currently in the program.

Thank you! I got accepted pretty early so I know I probably won't get much info from them until they fill the class.

OUxPhys and Richelle, Would one of you be able to tell me if all of the clinicals take place at the Cleveland Clinic?I am still trying to decide if I want to apply to CSU,Kent State(University Hospital Cohort), or Baldwin Wallace and knowing where the clinicals are located would help me.Thanks :)

Clinicals will be at the CC, UH, or Metro. It depends really. So far both of my rotations have been at the clinic, but I know people who had their first clinical at UH and now are at CC. Currently two groups are at UH and everyone else is at CC. Other nursing schools do the same thing (at least if they are in the area).

Also I would stay away from BW's, I heard they rushed it and have problems right now. I wanted to do the Kent-UH cohort but it's every other year and I just missed the deadline for the most recent class (I work at UH too)

Thanks OU!I did read that BW rushed it in another post but I was hoping they had worked out the kinks by now.I like the idea of the Kent UH cohort because all of my classes/clinicals would be in the same place(or at least thats what the website said). Picking a school is turning into a headache!LOL thanks for the help

No problem. Just remember for the most part that it doesnt matter what school you went to, just as long as you get that BSN. That's all the hospitals care about. They still take a few ADN's but Ive been hearing that they will do away with that in 2015 (As they dont want to pay for the ADN's to get their bachelors).

I'm back with more questions!lol

What does the typical schedule look like? How many days per week are the clinicals? How many hours are you actually in class each day?

Do you have the option to pick clinical locations or are you pretty much stuck with whatever location you're assigned to?

Any recommendations for housing?I'm not from the area.

Thanks for any feedback. It'll be a another month before I can attend an info session and I'm full of questions. :)

Right now I am in Med Surg 1. I have lecture Monday from 8-4, Clinical from 630-12 and then lab from 1-5 on Tuesdays, Wed and Thur clinical from 630-3, and then lecture from 1230-330 on Friday. I also have a research class from 8-1130 on Fridays. However, starting next Friday I will have psych lecture from 1230-4. Then after July 4th weekend I will have psych clinicals from 8-4 on Mondays and Wednesdays. You usually have a clinical, lecture, lab and another class each semester. Now keep in mind each semester is 8 weeks, so its more like quarters. 2 quarters=1 semester.

As for clinicals you can request to go somewhere but you must have a reason and it isn't even guaranteed. As for housing I would just find an apartment downtown or close to downtown. I can give you a list of areas to stay away from haha.

During the normal school year you are in class for only a few hours. Only during the summer are you stuck in class literally all day.

Thanks again! :) I kinda figured the clinicals thing wouldn't be guaranteed. I'm just concerned with the driving in Cleveland in the winter.I think winter hits Cleveland a little harder than my town. The list of areas to avoid would be MUCH appreciated haha

Im from the east side, also known as the snow belt, so we get more snow than the actual city and the west side. Lakewood is cheap and fun and not a long drive from the campus downtown. You can also move into an apartment downtown.

The areas to avoid are Maple Heights, Garfield Heights, East Cleveland, Glenville, Collinwood, parts of Euclid, Lakewood before W 117th st (Anything west of 117th is fine). I might be missing some others but I will add them as I think of them haha.

So, I was wondering if you could provide me with any interview tips? It's nice that they interview almost as many people as they're going to accept, that takes some pressure off.

Was it really intimidating? Did anyone do something that you can remember, that was like really bad? They really stressed on the phone to dress very professional. I'm guessing they must've had some bad experiences with that ha. What is the essay all about? Thanks again for all of your help.

Yes, dress professional. My guess is during one of the interviews they must have had some people dress a little too casual. What they do is they give you a set of dates and you tell them which one works for you. Then the interview is a group. You'll have an instructor asking questions and every person gets a chance to answer. The essay is one of those "chose to write about a question from below". That is done at the very end.

I thought it was a little intimidating because I have stage fright and do not like to talk in front of people, even if its just a few. As for tips just act and look professional, answer the questions with confidence, be clear etc.
