Cleveland State University Accelerated BSN Spring 2014

U.S.A. Ohio

Hello,

I am attending CSU's accelerated BSN program this coming January and was wondering if there is anyone else on here that starts at the same time or if anyone is currently in the program.

Don't think the chances of us working in a Cleveland Hospital is miniscule. I'm sure hospitals, if they have a spot open, would love to have a nurse with two Bachelor's of Science degrees and who could handle the rigor of an accelerated BSN program. Actually I know someone who went to the Baldwin Wallace's new accelerated bsn program and she got a job right after she graduated at Southwest General Hospital. She got the job only a few months ago since she graduated in 2013. Actually she had a bunch of offers for employment. Also the RN who taught me my STNA class said that "there will always be RN jobs available" and also that "hospitals are just being cautious due to the major healthcare reform bill taking place next year." Obviously there's still a chance we don't get a job in a Cleveland Hospital. I hope for the best though.

So do I. From the interview the one professor said just about all the students have a job lined up before they graduate. I go on some boards in other states and they make it sound like the world is ending! I can understand that though. It sounds like the ACA is going to be going through some major changes (again) anyways because nothing is going right and the politicians up for election in 2014 that supported it are trying to cover their rear ends. She is right though, there will always be RN jobs. If for some reason I cannot get a job in the area Im looking at Columbus and North Carolina.

During my interview the professor ----- said the same thing. A student asked about jobs right after graduating. The Affordable Care Act, I agree seems to have a lot of issues right now. Are you going to work during the program? And if so, how many hours a week? I'm switching to PRN when I start the program in January. I get paid more and I get to pick my own hours but the hours aren't guaranteed, which is fine because I'd rather more time to study. I still need some money coming in though.

I am. I'm working at Best Buy part time. My supervisor said I could change my availability as needed and that it would not be a problem since I told her I would be busy with class and clinicals. I'm just waiting on CSU to change my term so I can finally enroll in classes and set my availability. I'm going to try and shoot for no more than 15-20 hours a week, I think it's doable but at the same time I don't know what my clinical schedule will be like.

I just finished my last requirement for the program which was to become CPR certified. It was free from where I work. CSU charges 50 bucks. I still need to wait to get my CPR card though since I just finished the class. How are you doing with your health requirements?

I have my packet just about finished. I need to photo copy my BLS card and then I just need to mail everything, which I'll probably do early next week. Then once I'm done with my micro class I just need to send them a copy of my transcript and I'll be golden. Did you order your uniforms yet? I'm not sure if we will need those right away, I'm sure they will cover that at the orientation on Jan 7th. I'm hoping CSU has updated my account so I can finally enroll in classes. They said it can take 3-5 business days and they sent the request in Monday.....

Yes I went to Affordable Uniforms and bought my uniforms. They actually already have the uniforms for CSU so you don't need to wait for them to order it. Well that was what happened in my case. I bought one lab coat, and two pairs of the white scrub top and the cargo pocket scrub pants. The pants were more expensive than the other kind but working as a nursing assistant I noticed I really value pockets with my scrubs while working. The only thing I need is a stethoscope and I'm thinking of getting a Littman stethoscope since supposedly they are the best. Probably not the most expensive one though just in case I lose it or something. I also bought white nurse's shoes through work since I get a nice discount. Keep in mind though your name badge pin must be ordered through Affordable Uniforms and it takes like 2 weeks to get it, in my case it took almost a month.

I see. I will have to check that out. I suppose I should go ahead and order my nametag now so at least when class starts I will have it. For the shoes do they just have to be all white? Or do they have to be a certain type? Did the uniforms already come with the CSU patch and whatnot? I'll be sure to get the pants with the pockets. I remember seeing nurses carry literally everything with them.

No, you need to purchase the CSU patches separately and either sew the patches in yourself or pay a fee for Affordable Uniforms to sew it on. Regarding the shoes it's "No canvas tennis shoes, open heel or clogs may be worn. All white leather tennis shoes without color markings are allowed. Shoes must have closed toe and heel to meet OSHA requirements."

Do they sell the patches? I don't know how to sew so I'll just pay them to do it haha. Hmmm...I'll ask someone at the store what would qualify as a non-canvas tennis shoe. I've seen people wear regular wplain white tennis shoes from a variety of shoe brands. I talked to CSU today so I should be able to schedule my classes tomorrow

Yup you purchase them from Affordable Uniforms and they go on the left shoulder or left sleeve on each top including lab coat. I don't know how to sew either, well more correctly I forgot how, so my mom just did it for me. :p And awesome about being able to schedule your classes tomorrow. I already registered for classes but there was a conflict with a couple classes for summer semester, they sent an email about it so it should be fixed. Anyway I wonder if each class will have only accelerated bsn students like us, would be nice imo. Lol.

I would imagine all the classes will compromise just ABSN students. I think our schedule is a little bit different than the traditional students and RN-BSN students. All of our classes have 88 spots, which is the number of people they accepted this year.I received both e-mails, should be fixed next week (hopefully). Kinda bummed about ---------------- leaving, she helped out with a lot and was very helpful and patient all the times I called her lol.
