Anyone attending Mount Carmel Second Degree Program?

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone was currently attending or graduated from the Mount Carmel Second Degree program in Columbus, OH. If so how did you like it? I see from their website that the cost is almost 28K. Were you offered any type of loan repayment in exchange for work at the Mount Carmel Hospital?

Thanks in Advance!

One of my professors (who teaches at Mt Carmel also) said that if you work for their health system as a PCA or something you get a decent amount off your tuition.

Great thanks for the information .

I know this might be a similar question. Am not really familiar with starting my own thread. Anyway.......am staring Mt.Carmel College of Nursing (Accelerated BSN) in Jan 09. Getting to know anyone in the program would be a plus for me.

I have seen some of the TEXT books at OHIO LINK and thought I should just loan then and return at the end of he semister. What do u guys think.

How is nursing school going? I have heard that you cannot work while going through this program....how do you make it? What if any aid are you getting? How are you paying for it?

Specializes in Psych/med surg.

I am curious about this also because I am debating whether to do this versus the online Columbus State ADN. I would love to be through school in 13 months but I am scared I would be overwhelmed with a 4 year old, husband, and mortgage. Any feedback would be really helpful. :)

Am so sorry for the late reply. Its July...OMG, I cant believe it....that's how busy this program has been. @Carlaturk...YES this is a tough program, but its all in believing in yourself. We were all scared the first day, but I guess we have all developed shock absorbers and and doing great. And YES you CANNOT work, unless u want to loose your beutiful mind. You get a max. of $23,000 from the Fed goverment in loans depending on your eligibility. The school definitely costs more than that and you need to apply for outside loans that will cover the difference, your books, and everything else. I was not eligible for the government loans and so my parents have paid the whole thing out of pocket! Thank Goodness. I hope you guys have applied coz from what I hear, acceptance letters were sent out this week.

Actually, I know quite a few students at Mount Carmel who work part and full time and still have a family. You can do it if you are motivated enough. Also you may want to rethink Mount Carmel as they are on academic probation right now. So if they don't bring up their NCLEX pass rates they lose thier accreditation. Also, I am at Columbus State. STAY AWAY FROM THERE!! I have been 3 years waiting to start and FINALLLY get to start in March. That school is so ass backwards its ridiculus. I have heard awesome things about Otterbein though...

@mmgraham, I dont know what student at my carmel u are referring to. Hoping that u are talking about the regular undergrads, the second degree student CANNOT work. Its impossible. For the NCLEX, I dont know about the reg. students, but the first class to do second degree prog. at the school had a 100% pass rate! The second class graduated this past January and we are yet to get the complete stats. The probation is news!

@mmgraham. Here are the stats. first (Class of '08) class 2nd degree prog.-------->100% pass rate, second class (Class of 09')-------->yet to be released but so far lots of passses!

So I dont know what program is on probation. Thats news to me.....fill me in.

i'm at columbus state and can tell you if it took 3 years for you to start...you were not doing something right. i don't see how they could make it any easier for you...log on to the website...see the requirements for applying...complete those requirements...applying during the application period. i can say that since you didn't even notice that the op was referring to the accelerated second degree program and not the regular degree program and said you know quite a few student that are in the program and work, then you reading skills are not up the snuff!!
