should i review maternal child nursing?

I am going to work in ob after 5 yrs of medsurge and home health. I was wondering if i should review my maternal child book or if i will learn what i need to know when i start working?:eek:

I don't see why reviewing it would be of any harm. I only see good from it. I'm sure you'll learn when you're working but knowing the general basics is always a good idea.

Definitely review it. There's an entire knowledge base and assessment that you probably haven't dealt with for five years or more. I wouldn't want to spend my first day on an OB floor asking what a fundus is, etc.

Oh yes definitely!

Medsurg is SO different from OB. I should know being exposed in the area as we are always working with DR nurses and staff. And to think that when I was a student my last rotation was MedSurg. Everything's different from the set-up, to the equipment, to patients, assessments etc. It's like you have to relearn and unlearn things that you already know. What may seem harmless in the general ward may be harmful in maternity. So time to go back to your notes. And of course, pericare and breastfeeding are just some things you need to get back to. :)
