I just found out that I am pregnant with my first baby. I am not really sure how far along that I am, my best guess is about 4 weeks. I will be having a sonogram on the 11th to determine how far along that my unexpected suprise is. Several of my family members, etc, think that I may be farther along because of the numerous symptoms that I am having. My belly is already starting to round out and my breasts are fairly full. I am having lots of nausea, heartburn and lower back discomfort. Does it sound like I am farther along than 4 weeks or are these typical early symptoms? Thanks for the advice.

Congrats Heather. I'd say wait until the sono to find out how far you are. The symptoms with the exception of the expanding tummy are not reliable for how many weeks gestation that you are. Good luck.

I agree wait for the sono. Each person is different and 1st trimester sono's are remarkably accurate in pinpointing due dates and gestation. Congratulations to you.

I'm pregnant right now, too! Congrats to you! I know you are excited & nervous, since all first-time Mom's are (like me)!

The ultrasound will be fairly accurate at this point. I had my first ultrasound at 8 weeks, which was determined to be accurate for dating within 5 days, plus or minus. I started to "show" early, around 8 weeks. Every woman is different in when/how she shows, when/how she experiences symptoms, etc... One website I've explored is:

http://www.pregnancylounge.com

It's probably not the best site out there, but people frequently post & ask lots of questions from one another. There are a lot of site rules, unfortuantely (read them before posting!), and few people have a medical/nursing background. Regardless, I've learned a lot about the experience of being pregnant.

I'm 25 weeks now, expecting a boy Nov 10th +/- 5 days, and taking 3 months off my med-surg nursing job for family leave. What is your circumstance? What are your plans? Write anytime....

Could you be having twins?????Congrats on your pregnancy....Please keep us posted..

Thanks everyone for your advice, I will let you know what I find out after my sonogram on the 11th.

Congrats on your pregancies. I'm also pregnant. Due April 9th, 2005. I guess that makes me 4-5 weeks. This is my second baby. Has anyone heard the rumors that if you are prego with a girl your symptoms are much more exaggerated than if it was a boy? I know it's supposed to be an old wives tale. But I work in Labor and Delivery and many of my patients swear by it. Maybe Heather is having a girl. I hope I am. :)

Congrats, Heather!!!!

Lizzy- there is a thread around here somewhere with a bunch of OB myths that might be fun for you to read.

Lizzy, in the last couple of days my symptoms have really decreased, except for the tiredness and breast changes. I am so thankful that I am no longer nauseated . This whole pregnancy thing is so strange, I am not sure what to expect.

Heather, one of the books I have loved having during the first and so far my second pregnancy is, "Pregnancy: Week by Week." It gives you something new to read each week and a whole list of possible symptoms. I've also liked the famous "What to expect when you're expecting." That one is helpful too, but it goes month by month. I like to read more often than that. Do you have any idea when your due date might be, last period??? If so you can use Nagel's rule, subtract 3 months and add 7 days for your due date.

congratulations to all those who are pregnant. I am 15 weeks and just started to show, this is my 4th child. I have 3 boys already. I have been quite ill with this one..........vomiting all time feeling so tired, even backache. I had slight sickness with boys but nothing like this. I have been off work for 7 weeks cos of me being so ill and back on tues. I do not wish to know sex of my baby. people keep saying ah bet u want a girl. Well i want another boy, hubby wants a girl. to be honest as long as its ok i dont mind
