I was online trying to find research articles on episiotomies and I came across this device.

I was intrigued so I looked up research done on the device. Here are some that supports the claims made by the sellers of the product.

hahaha WHAT?! Just leave mamas alone! I dont think introducing MORE machines/bacteria into their body is the right answer for decreasing episiotomies. Some CNM's and OB's swear by a little olive oil massaged on the perineum during pushing, but i really think that just allowing mom to push in any position and on her own time (and only when she feels the urge to push) is the best way to avoid tearing.

ETA - 46% intact perineum isnt very good. I dont have the statistics off the top of my head, but i could look them up, but i think Ina May's clients have something like a 75% intact perineum rate.

You should see the youtube video showing how this thing works...

Twenty-five years ago, my husband was given the opportunity to help me by 'massaging' my lady parts and perineum. I found it sensual, he hated it. We did it twice!

Except for a truly precipitous delivery, there really ought not to be bad tearing.

Adding a new 'device' makes the natural way a woman's body works into another disease process.

Probably developed by a man.....

Favorite line from Baby Mama "Is it cool if maybe I just spray a little pam down in that area right before the baby comes out?" lol

i read somewhere, years ago, that nudists have a much lower epi rate.....

Nope, no thanks.

I'm of the 'Let it stretch on its own and let Mom push how/when she wants' and you're a lot better off. And less machinery. Humans have been fine for a long time without contraptions like this!!

Well, I've decided I want one of these, but just to improve my sex life!

Hahahaha!!!! ( Come here, honey, I bought a new toy! )

This just doesnot sound like a good thing...thinking about the pt who has started to dialate-or have bulging membranes...NOT GOOD!

Well....I thought I'd seen everything! Guess not

LOL, off all the things that go into episiotomy rate, I'd put FEWER INTERVENTIONS at the top!

FWIW, I delivered 4 very large babies over an intact perineum with the help of experienced midwives, slow pushing and olive oil. Additionally, a tear isn't always a big deal.

This device was recommended to me by multiple European friends, and I used it both with my first child in 03 and my second in 05. I had long, difficult labors, but "not a scratch" down below, and believe me, it made healing so much faster! I have recommended this nifty gadget to all my pregnant friends, not having a burning, itching scar on top of everything else is priceless, not to mention that things are back to normal afterwards without any "battle scars"! I know most American women are not at all into discussing their bodies openly, but please consider this god-sent! I know I would have been so much worse off without it! And no, I don't get endorsement fees, though I should get something by now! Lol
