Best labor and delivery hospital?

Hello! I'm graduating in May with my BSN from OU.

For those of you who have worked in labor and delivery, what have your experiences been at the different hospitals? I live in Moore, so I'm planning on applying for Midwest, Integris Lakeside, OU med, Deaconess, and Norman Healthplex. Which do you think is the best hospital to work at? I've heard OU is kind of a nightmare but I'm afraid it's going to be the only hospital that wants to hire me as a new grad. Thanks in advance!

Also if you can think of any other hospitals I should look at please let me know! Thanks!

Congrats on almost getting through school. Has your school said anything about the job market? If they haven't....it is bad. Some areas on the country have an almost 47% unemployment rate of nurses most of them being new grads. IN addition to a saturated market....getting hired right out of school into a specialty is very difficult. Many specialties require one year experience before they consider you for a position.

I hope you are able to get into that coveted position but it will be wise to have a plan B.

Well thanks for taking the time for the negative comment, but a lot of the hospitals in Oklahoma are in real need of nurses. Many of the large/teaching hospitals in my area almost exciusively hire new grads into specialty areas and have residency programs for them. I was just seeking a local nurse's perspecitve on the specific hospitals mentioned. I have many friends and family members that are local and do only PRN and agency work and are steadily employed because there is such a need. While I think it's always a good plan to have several irons in the fire, I'd also like to just get some helpful perspectives from other nurses in my area. But thanks!

It isn't an attempt at negativity, but it is reality right now. You may get lucky and get your 'dream job' right out of school, but that is unusual for most new grads. In other words be open to other areas of nursing just in case!

PP's post wasn't even close to negative, but realistic.

I second TheCommuter's suggestion, if you are looking specifically for info related to OKC, you should just head over to the Oklahoma forum. You posted this in the General Nursing Forum so that is why you got an answer about the general overview of nursing for new graduates.

I ended up getting hired on an L&D unit. Been there for about a year and a half and I'm liking it. :)
