Cv templates/sites/examples

World UK

Published

Hi there,

just wondering if anyone has any fool proof templates or websites that have examples of cv's used in the uk. I'll be applying for a job there soon. Any advice on how to go about it? Should I use a travel agency or walk into hospitals and introduce myself. I know it's all who you know. My resume isn't terribly impressive and I have no specialty yet so any helpful tips and tricks are welcome!

cheers

Could I ask if your resident in the UK, if not you need to go through the registration process with the NMC

nhs jobs website is a useful resource for jobs

http://Www.jobs.nhs.uk

I am a british/canadian citizen, ill be moving to england and I'm trained in canada so ill be applying through the NMC, writing the IELTS this saturday.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

I would say get your registration sorted with NMC first and then start applying for jobs as most adverts will state Applicants must have current UK professional registration.

Your quite right, you won't even get short listed without registration as you don't meet the minimum criteria.

Okay good to know. So is it easier to apply to the website? I know here at home it's all "who you know" and applying from outside the network is virtually impossible to get anywhere. Any advice there? Also I still need a cv example. Mines completely out of date and I have no idea if they are different in the uk then canada.

Thanks guys

Hi amccoan,

Im almost in the same situation as you, as im going also through the NMC reg process rightnow. I find this website very helpful Jobs, Careers and Recruitment on reed.co.uk, the UK's #1 job site, it provides lots of information about writing cvs and covering letters, there are also templates etc.

Through it you can also apply for jobs, but sort out your registration first.

Btw, you write that in Canada to find a jobs depends "who you know", well I find that distrubing. I live here in Germany and I could just apply for job anywhere within Germany and would most likely get a job across the country. Is it not same in Canada, I thought it was a highly develpoed country where merits, education etc count for something.
