Nursing Students Student Assist

i am new in nursing school, only 6 weeks in. here's my problem. i always felt that when i would try to contribute in a discussion or ask a question, that the teacher was blowing me off but kept thinking to myself maybe its just me. well yesterday the girl who is in my class mentioned it to me. now i know its not my imagination,(wow its that obvious) so we tested it and yes she ignored me when i spoke. now im struggling in class as it is. i think about this alot and it has affected my studies. what would you do? if i fail these classes im out of program. im afraid if ask her about it things will only get worse. any thoughts?

" On the other hand a "C" or "A" student still= RN."

Hi Smiley.That C was when I was taking my pre-requisites. So a C back then was not a joke:cry:.

The instructor has her RN label behind her name most likely, so just focus on getting yours and don't let no one stand in the way of your dreams. It happened to me too, but I am now a RN as of Saturday.

Maybe I missed something here. How does being blown off or ignored by the teacher = failing classes?

because not all persons are as honorable as ye and me.......this behavior (the instructor) is seen in persons who, for some reason, have decided to blow the student off, right out the door.....

Learning to deal with differenct personalities and how to handle conflict is a hugh part of nursing and life . I would speak to the teacher and see if there is an issue and try to resolve it.

I've had the same problem. The bottom line is that your instructor is there to teach you, not like you. You are there to learn and put mental distractions aside. We will not always be liked, it is not necessary to be liked, it is necessary to be competant ---- learn from her, she got where she is as an educator for a reason. Just stay focused on your goal and work hard. Remember this is just the beginning for you. It may also help to reflect on why your instructors approval or liking of you is so important.

Keep your head up.

she may not realize she is ignoring you. how large is your class? even a class with 20 students is a big load for an instructor to handle. if i were in your shoes, i would schedule an office appointment with the instructor and bring up my concerns. i have learned things are not always as bad as we make them out to be. i bet it's just a misunderstanding.

well just ignore the teacher and contiune answer questions~that's my suggestion~!

dont put personal emotion in those affairs, teachers are just NPCs, we answer the questions for ourselves, not for them. what important in a class is the knowledge you learned and the results for exams. so keep studying and make good performance. any bad teacher can not live with u for all ur life.

good luck~

I think the best way to handle this is to be very mature and professional and see the prof in their office hours. Perhaps bring up questions that you tried to ask in class or simple questions like how to do well in her class. The prof can then see how serious you are and important the class is to you and perhaps make a new judgement on you as a student. If you switch the shoes its tough to please all students as an educator, maybe they have a hard time teaching and answering all questions by students. Try to give them the benefit of the doubt. Its only a semester you'll have to put up with them right??!
