Naproxen question

Hey everyone, I'm studying for a math/pharm test that is this tuesday. Please HELP!!

The patient is d/c with prescription for naproxen 500 mg BID. The nurse should teach that the most common side effect of this drug is:

a) rash

b) nausea and vomiting

c) headache

d) possible infections

I looked in Davis' drug guide and it says the most common are dizziness, drowsiness, headache, constipation, and nausea. So for my answer, I chose c) headaches. Friends in my nursing class have shared answers and others feel it should be b) nausea and vomiting. I thought maybe it was a trick because in Davis' it says nausea but NO vomiting. Any thoughts?? Of course in school, we can only pick one answer, so what would you pick?

I would say b also

I wonder. I took Naproxen a few years back and it gave me the worst heart burn I've ever had. Since "fire chest" isn't an option, Nausea and Vomiting would be my next choice as I don't like the other answers. But I've been proven wrong before :)

i would say n/v.

I'd go with nausea and vomiting. Most COX inhibitors have this as a rather common side effect.

nausea and vomiting, they cause alot of GI upset for some people with or without food

It is the stomach one. Usually before prescribing naproxen the dr finds out if the patient has a history of stomach problems. Excessive naproxen use leads to gastritis, ulcers and gastric bleeding
