I think I just need some encouragement

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Two weeks ago the class average of our endocrine exam was 75% (I got a 76%) I worked so hard for that test. My problem now is Monday's respiratory test. I don't have the energy to take anything in because of how hard I worked for my last test and all's it lead to was failure.

I'm struggling with respiratory and don't even know where to begin. I keep trying to put everything together, but I'm afraid that it's just not working.

Any advice on where to begin, or how to put this all together? :uhoh3:

You're talking about a test two days from now! What specifically is giving you problems with respiratory stuff?

Hang in there!! Just a few weeks ago, in my last semester and last test before the final, I BOMBED an exam I studied my tail off for!! 68%! I had never failed a test up to that point!! I ended up missing only 10 on the final!!;)

Dont let one grade get ya down....I know it is HARD.....but have faith in yourself, get help in the next few days like getting a study group together...you'll do great!!

I know our class average on that test was barley passing....part of the problem was our teacher was a wack-job, but after I got past that I failed....I was even more determined to do well on the final and I did!

Hi!

Take a deep breath, and know you are highly successful already cause you is where you is... ;) I know because my nursing students are complaining about and experiencing the same thing you are going through! My unit exams tend to be tougher than the final, and we use NCLEX format questions. We could write an exam that everyone would get a 98% on and be happy, the instructor would win the Teach o' the Week award, and no student would pass their licensing exam! We let the students drop their lowest exam grade from their final average. It might be helpful for you to look at how you study. I strongly encourage my students to read each chapter before the lecture, and highlight only KEY terms and concepts as they actively listen. I can talk way faster than anyone can take notes!:lol2:

I suggest they write their notes into a study outline, and I hand out empty power point outlines to facilitate this process. Remember, in a tough program, a 75% is a good grade. Getting enough rest before an exam is almost as important as studying for it. Hint: if the instructor "mentions" a term or patho more than once... it may just be on the exam.... 'cause who knows what questions are contained therein???? hugs, and good luck, sue

Excellent advice. Please check out our test-taking advice thread, especially this "gem" of a post which explains why nursing exam questions are much more difficult than any other type of test you have ever previously experienced:

Thank you all for the encouragement!! I really needed it. I think I ended up letting stress get the best of me which sometimes it's hard to just take a moment, breath in, and exhale!!!!
