Which stethoscope?

Which stethoscope would you nurses recommend? I'm starting an RN program in Jan...I want a GOOD one that will last me throught school and into my career. Please help! Post links/pics if you can! Thanks!

I've heard the cardiology ones work wonderfully...I'm really leaning towards getting one. They are a little on the expensive side, but I see it as an investment (as long as it doesn't get stolen!)

I agree, and as far as it getting stolen, I recommend getting it engraved....

The cardiology is SO heavy!! It weighed a ton on my neck, made my jacket lopsided if I put it in my jacket pocket, and made my pants hard to keep up when I wore it on a hip clip. I got one for school & ended up buying a master classic which is much lighter & performs the same, I think. I agree with getting it engraved, whichever you choose.

I got a Littman Master Classic and love it! I can hear breath sounds even on a morbidly obese patient with no problems at all. I had it engraved, and managed to lose it on the first day of lab. Luckily, someone turned it into lost and found. I feel that having it engraved helped with that.

My honey got me a Littman Classic 3 for my bday. It's purple, my fav color and engraved. Thx for the tips!!

My boyfriend has a littman classic II and really likes it. However, a nurse I know has the littman cardiology one and the sound is Awesome! I start in January as well and am leaning towards the cardiology one.

Littman classic 2..... I like my students to have the bell and the intenser... Many come with ultrascopes, which I myself have, but it really takes years to be able to utilize an ultrascope because it is pressure and experience related. I do not recommend a cardiac stethoscope, because you are a new student, most teachers want to teach you from the ground up.... Classic 2 by litman comes in about 12 colors, two lenths, durable and cost around $100, I still have mine from 1998!

the Littmann Classic II S.E. is a great scope for students and to be carried on into your nursing career. I had that one and loved it, then I upgraded to the Littmann Cardiology III and I love that one even more. If you're going to purchase a Littmann, I think at least go with the Classic II S.E. The Littmann Lightweight is cheaper and truly feels like you're wearing nothing around your neck, but that's all it is. I've had nurses tell me not to purchase that one. I have some coworkers who use a Lightweight and I have borrowed their stethoscope and the acoustics are very poor compared to the Classic II and especially to the Cardiology III.

If you purchase a Littmann, don't let it leave your sight! They have a tendency to "walk off"...and if you have a physician wanting to borrow it, make sure you get it back!!! The physicians I work with have all been great with returning my scope but one nearly walked away with it! D:
