What are your favorite shoes? My poor feet!

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I've tried like 4 brands of shoes and my feet STILL hurt after my shift...especially the 12 hour shifts. I've had Nursemates, Rockers, Crocs and I just bought Klogs. The Klogs are very comfy and great for the first 4 hours but then my feet start hurting again.

Any advice?

I swear by my danskos. I have had back surgery and was left with come numbness in my right foot - I had a hard time finding shoes that were comfortable for both my foot and my back and I love the danskos! Yes, they are pricey, but will wear forever, so they are well worth it. If you do decide to try a pair give be sure to give yourself a few days to adjust to them. They are different than any pair of shoes I had worn before and did take a little getting used to.

It's crocs for me! I bought the pair that only has holes in the sides (not on top - afraid of having something spill on my foot and soak through to my socks) and not once have my feet hurt at the end of a shift. And you can't beat the price!

Try some support hose...no kidding...tons of nurses swear by them. Also do a search here and you will find a lot of threads about shoes.

I would also recommend going to a higher-end shoe store in a mall where they know about comfortable shoes. I went to one where they watched me walk and examined my arch etc and found a shoe that was right for my foot (all our feet are different).

Also stay away from cheap inserts there are many great ones out there but you will pay up to 30$ for a good set of insoles.

When all else fails go to a podiatrist...

Agree with the support hose - I use them; it also helps my calves from cramping mid-shift.

I've got Danskos now, and while I love them, they still can't beat my old Birkenstocks. I have a lot of heel pain with any shoe I wear, but the heel cup in the Birks made it disappear. Plus, the Birks were loose fitting (tight enough to run in during codes), so my feet could breathe during my 12 hours on.

I absolutely adore the imitation Crocs that I purchased at Target for the price of $9.99 per pair. I can wear them throughout the course of my 16-hour double shifts without any foot pain whatsoever.

I also like Adidas and Avia athletic shoes.
