I have completely flat feet (no arch at all). I purchased a pair Asics years ago for running. They have a really strong boot that helps stabilize my ankles. In addition to my arch supports, I wear those, and they help immensely!
I've also (finally) have the time to add exercise back into my schedule, and that's helped strengthen my muscles to give me extra stamina.
I know that's some digression, but I hope it helps...
I absolutely love New Balance sneakers!! But when I went to buy them I told the saleman what I needed them for, which I think helped. He recommended a certain pair of cardio shoes made for walking, not running, and they're wonderful. I've worn the running ones a few times but my feet did bother a few hours into the shift, never had that problem with the walking shoes. And I personally dislike Danskos (they haven't been mentioned yet). I say, stick with the New Balance or some type of good walking shoe.
I had a pair of New Balance 608s that I wore until they literally fell apart (2.5 years). Loved them. After that, I bought some Nike Shox (mostly cause I couldn't find my beloved NB's) and they are AWESOME!
