Gimme some suggestions for shoes for my aching feet!

I know...I need to lose weight... I am trying. In the meantime, I'd love to hear what kind of shoes you all wear to keep comfortable. I've use skechers, new balance, nike, all the popular ones, but my right heel is aching like crazy. Not my toes, not the flat part of my foot, but my heel. And it's worse if I sit for a few minutes then get up and walk. YIKKKEESSS the pain! After walking (hobbling) a few minutes, I'm OK. I had an xray done, no heel spur found. I guess it could be plantar fascitis but it's only on the heel. Feels like I'm stepping on a rock. Ibuprofen doesn't help (that's odd) but plain tylenol does so I pop that 3 times a day.

Can't afford not to walk/work so any suggestions for good shoes??

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

Have your heard of crocs? I own a pair and love them so much. I have heard many good things from nurses who own a pair or two. :)

Specializes in 5 yrs OR, ASU Pre-Op 2 yr. ER.

Try some gel heel pads first. Dr Scholl's also has the Massaging Gel insoles that are for the heel area only. This is what helped me. I've always had a hard time finding shoes that provided enough heel cushion

You sound like my mom and her plantar fasciitis pain. She loves birkenstocks. I have a coworker with PF who likes dansko. You might do a search for plantar fasciitis and see what you come up with. Good luck, I hope your pain eases!

As a 5'2" 231 pound woman, I know exactly what you mean by achy feet. When I've been sleeping or sitting awhile and then get up it's a funy sight to see me start walking...I've GOT to lose weight!

But in the meantime I wear Addidas running/cross training shoes. These have been the easiest on my feet.

I bought a pair about 3 weeks ago but now they're not as "cushiony feeling"as when I first got them. If it wasnt' for my heel, they would be great. Thanks for the suggestion Jessica! Marie, I've tried alot of stuff but never the gel pads. I'm going to try that next. Thanks. Hey Penny....about the birkenstocks...this nurse I work with today just got a brand new pair, the only thing she ever wears and loves them. But this nurse weighs 100lbs soaking wet. Don't the hard soles hurt after a while? I know I know, LOSE WEIGHT!

Try the cushions inside the crocs....maybe it will be better. If not, then Bierkenstock makes wonderful shoes. :)

The birkenstocks were hard on my heels as ell. I needed something cushiony.

I think drugstore.com might sell the gelpads.

Specializes in surgical, ortho.

I wear Ryka tennis shoes. They are specifically designed for the female foot. I love them. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. Lady Footlocker sells them.

I rarely have problems with my Reeboks. I have a hard enough time finding size 4 1/2's :p
