Anyone else prefer custom made scrubs

I am 46 years old, really. The last 10 years I have switched from landaus, and all my scrubs are custom made and fitted. I also decide on the material used. I have gotten away from the synthetics and prefer to have all mine made from renewable sources. Organic cotton, and even lately from bamboo cloth which is very comfortable but also very lasting. I prefer materials from renewable sources.

I also prefer having them custom fitted and designed. There are certain ways that I like my scrubs designed. I can easily afford it, so I do pamper myself a little in this regard.

This reply is in response to the readers who would like to have their scrubs custom made. I am a professional seamstress with over 38 years experience in the sewing industry. Just today, I received an order from someone at an optometrists' office for a scrub top with a high school logo on the upper pocket. I thought " how cute". This is a winner!! If anyone is looking for a seamstress for custom made scrubs, just respond to this post and I will get back with you.

Thanks!!

Does anyone know of any websites for templates or instructions for sewing your own scrubs? I am going to be purchasing a serger and would be able to make them myself, however i would like to see a pattern or a show me how.

I do like cherokee workwear scrubs thats what I wear now. I love the fit.

mcall's/simplicity will have patterns....just find a fabric store, or go on line.

I agree with the other response. They are fairly simple to make. Get a pattern and follow the instructions!! It's that easy!!:)

Hi everyone! I am a fairly petite person - so have been dealing with sizing issues for a while...these posts are really helpful.

I found a couple of sites that do custom made scrubs that were helpful (in case you prefer to buy vs. make): sassyscrubs.com, blueskyscrubs.com and I also found this new company that just launched http://www.tailormedscrubs.com

I ended up getting a pair from TailorMed because it was a easier to design and I liked that I could choose where to put my pockets - they also said they are going to send it to me in 2-3 weeks which was pretty good considering they are making them by hand.

sure do, i make my own and then can put all the pockets i want where i want. sewing is also "my" time. also i suffer(ha-ha) from short leg dz and hate buying clothes only to have to hem them to fit me. now i just adjust the pattern to how i want it to be on me. have also had fun adding lace to cover the wear and tear around the neck. everyone wonders where i get my scrubs. i love watching their faces when i tell them i sew them. sometimes patients recognize the patterns from material stores and we share sewing secrets and stories.:yeah:

i wish i had you around, i always have a hard time getting my scrubs to fit, since i'm into body-building; i have to mis-match all of my scrubs. :uhoh3:

I am not a seamstress by a far shot, but if you like the cherokee scrubs, couldn't you just seam rip a set of scrubs apart, and use that as your template?

Just a suggestion, not sure if it is really do-able or not.

yup, that would work, just make sure you add back the seam allowance. You can treat it as a pattern and make whatever changes you want.
