Hi im a new member... from PR born and raised...Not a nurse yet though..LOL i have an BBA in Marketing from the UPI and ive always wanted to be in the healthcare profession so i have just signed my papers and im on my way to readmission for 2yrs to finish a nursing BSN(in my beloved alma mater i just cant leave..lol)...!!

Had to edit to say. For those english only speakers thinking of studying in PR there is an english trimester BSN program in the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. I had a look at the curriculum for this program and its really awsome. The ppl that work there are awsome as well.. Here is the info on the English Program http://metro.inter.edu/servacad/trimestral/index.html ...

Any questions dont hesitate to hollar!! :)

No...there are only 10 spaces and they do give priority to PR natives. Or ppl who fufill with 4 requisites of what they call the "PR bond". Which means where your parents are from, where you went to HS, where you went to college, where you were born etc etc...

Its as competitive as they are in the states. And moreso with their "bond" requirements.

I talked to the councelor today..LOL

Hello all PR nurses!

Please help a fellow RN....I am from Oklahoma and work for a large hospital here. We( the hospital that I work for) are currently advertising and recruiting from PR. In April, we will go on our second trip there. On our first trip in November of 2003, we discovered a lot of interest in relocating to Oklahoma. Any tips, suggestions for us?

Hey all you Puerto Rican nurses! Not a nurse yet, but was stationed there at Roosevelt Roads naval station as a hospital corpsman and absolutely LOVED it there! Wonderful place, wonderful people, matter of fact, when I graduate, a friend of mine and I are going to go back there and rent a convertible and just drive all over the place and re-vist our favorite places....Luquillo Beach, Bacardi Rum Factory, Culebra, Ponce,..... I could go on and on, but you get the picture! :p

I am in Tennessee, but I want to go to Nursing School in Puerto Rico. My knowlegde of Spanish is minimal. I want to know if any of the universities down there have classes in English or are they in Spanish? I am hoping to find a school that has a program in English so that I can do well in them and then also work on my Spanish as I interact in daily life. My main goal is to provide healthcare to Hispanics. Do you have any info?

I have a friend who went to nursing school in puerto rico. I really can't say if there are any nursing schools that teach in english but I can tell you that most of the Universities in Puerto Rico use mainly text books that are in english. The classes are still taught in spanish but you will have the advantage of learning from text books in english. I hope this helps. Keep in mind that nurses only get paid 6 to 8 dollars an hour in Puerto Rico, unless you decide to work as a nurse on a military base.

If anyone is interested, there is a good article (in Spanish) about the Gov PR veto of wage increases for nurses in the island. The address is:

televicentropr.com

The gov. veto, according to the nurses' union in PR , will cause a MASS EXODUS of nurses from the island to the USA..Orlando, FL, NY, California....

Hello there all you nurses from PR .

I am currently a women's health nurse practitioner in NJ and will be relocating to PR in about 1 year. From what i can gather conditions in PR are not favorable for nurses. Does anyone know how the speciality of advanced practice nurses in PR is doing or does it exsist at all.

:nurse: Hi poki, I am working as a registered nurse here at PR. do, I am processing my Florida license endorsement and doing some research on communities/schools/hospitals at Central Florida. Do you like travel nurse? Is it a rewarding job experience? Tell me mor

I'm curious about this too. Are conditions bad for APNs and CRNAs on the island? I've heard the salary for nurses is pretty b ad on the island.
