At my hospital, when administering Ativan through continuous infusion, we are to attach a micron filter to the tubing. This got me thinking, should I be drawing up IVP doses of Ativan with a filter needle?

Your pharmacist is a great resource to ask this question to. He/She can let you know if this is to be done or not. And see what the facility policy is.

I find it very hard time draw it up via filter needle because it's so viscous.
....and it is not within my scope to do Ativan pushes, however, is there a crystallization thing that happens with saline, therefore, that is why it would need a filter on the IV?
DISCLAIMER: I have not a clue, however, I would check out why the filter is needed on the IV, then go back from there.

Ativan when mixed and hung can become unstable and form crystals.
Not necessary with IVP...it is the length of time mixed.
